New York Soothr — A New Thai Spot: A Delight
📌 204 E 13th St, New York, NY 10003
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐
Creativity: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
👎Downsides:
➤Price is a bit high — expect about $30–50 per person. Some mains are underwhelming in portion size and/or flavor; at the same price you might find better value elsewhere.
➤A few dishes lean toward Westernized interpretations of Thai food, which may disappoint diners who come seeking strictly traditional Thai flavors.
➤The restaurant is often busy and requires reservations; the staff are friendly and attentive, but during peak hours service can feel a bit strained.
👍Highlights:
➤Signature items retain authentic Thai flavors, and the creative dishes deliver surprising, successful innovations.
➤Although the place was crowded when we visited, our server (a short-haired woman who patiently explained the menu) provided warm, enthusiastic service that felt cinematic — the restaurant was even projecting Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love while we dined, so the atmosphere was absolutely on point.
Recommended dishes:
1️⃣Duck Noodle 🍜
A dry-tossed noodle dish — once mixed, the noodles are coated in sauce and have a silky mouthfeel. The duck is sweet without being greasy; it’s a flavor I hadn’t encountered before. The plating is photogenic and very IG-friendly.
2️⃣Sukhothai Noodles 🍜
Also a dry-tossed noodle. The noodles are the crunchy, puffed type that become translucent after dressing, with tom yum–style sweet-and-sour notes and a mild warming heat. Topped with fish cake, minced meat, char siu, and crunchy chips, the textures and layers are very satisfying.
3️⃣Si-Krong Pad Ped 🍚
The most traditionally Thai dish we tried — classic sweet-sour-spicy Thai flavors. Spice level sits around medium-hot, and it’s served with a bowl of rice. The ribs are deeply flavored and fall-off-the-bone tender — very addictive with rice.
Compared with a conventional Thai restaurant, Soothr feels more like a Thai-theme creative kitchen: bold experimentation while still respecting core Thai seasoning principles. Highly recommended for those who want a flavor punch and visually refined plates — the dishes are genuinely photogenic and worth trying.
