Guiyang Silk Doll Wraps — Have You Tried Them?
I took a friend from out of town to check out one of Guiyang’s well-known spots: Silian Siwawa (International Trade Plaza branch).
⸻
🌯 Siwawa (Silk Doll Wraps) 🌟🌟🌟
➤ 10 thin wrappers
➤ A full plate of toppings (with free refills)
The toppings are classic Guiyang style: shredded potato, lotus root, celtuce, houttuynia (fish mint), cucumber, pickled radish, cold noodles, and more.
This place serves the sour soup version of siwawa.
Before you start, the staff pours you a small bowl of sour soup from a teapot—to “wake up” your appetite.
Then it’s DIY time:
👉 Wrap the fillings in the thin sheet
👉 Roll it into a “little doll” shape
👉 Pour in the sour soup and eat it in one bite
To be honest, the flavor hasn’t changed much over the years.
As a local, every visit tastes exactly the same—
which makes it feel a bit… predictable.
My friend asked:
“Is this kind of like Vietnamese spring rolls?”
And yeah, it is—
both involve wrapping fillings in a sheet.
But the differences:
➤ Siwawa wrappers are soft; spring rolls use translucent rice paper
➤ The soul here is the sour soup/dipping sauce, giving it a tangy-spicy kick

🐖 Shredded Pork with Sweet Bean Sauce 🌟
We added an extra dish—shredded pork (12 RMB).
Honestly, the portion was tiny.
Overall a bit oily and sweet, nothing impressive.
Not really worth the price.
⸻
🥟 Guiyang Soup Dumplings 🌟🌟🌟
We also tried the local-style soup dumplings.
➤ There is soup inside, but not a lot
➤ The skin breaks easily when picking up
➤ Flavor is relatively mild
It’s decent with vinegar,
but compared to Shanghai-style soup dumplings,
it lacks depth and richness.

📖 Final Thoughts: Great for First-Timers, Not for Frequent Visits
✔ Consistent flavor, hard to go wrong
✔ Fun, interactive eating experience
✔ Sour soup version adds local character
✖ But lacks innovation—locals might get bored over time
