Rating all my excursions in Lapland,Finland (pt.1)

🌎Location: Saariselkä, Finland

1. Aurora photography workshop

Rating /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: 3

provides a great reality check and very informative sharing on what are auroras and how it occurs. Good to do as first activity because they give very helpful notes and pointers to get the best shot of the Northern Lights (:

2. Snowshoeing

Rating /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: 3

Putting on the shoes was more difficult than the walk itself. Snow suit will be provided so dress lightly if not you will be sweating. Snow is deep and requires strength to lift up the legs to walk. It's my 2nd time doing this so i know what to expect. For 1st timers, this is probably the most active excursion compared to the rest but it is worth it! Didn't see NL but I enjoyed the campfire :)

3. Snowmobile

Rating /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: 4.5

Got the 10km route and it was so exciting!! Adrenaline junkie would love this 😍 Really need to focus as the driver. The course is also quite balanced in terms of challenge (difficulty level: 2/5) and there are enough bends and curves to keep you on your toes

... Read moreIf you’re planning a trip to Lapland and wondering which excursions really deliver, here are some extra insights based on my experiences. The Aurora photography workshop was not just about snapping photos—it deepened my understanding of the Northern Lights phenomenon itself, helping me appreciate why the lights dance as they do. The instructor’s practical tips made a real difference when I headed out for my own night shots. Snowshoeing surprised me with its physical demand; it’s more than just walking on snow—it really engages your muscles differently, especially when tackling deep snow. I found dressing lightly underneath the provided snowsuit helped me stay comfortable despite the activity’s intensity. It’s a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the Arctic wilderness and even though I didn’t catch the Northern Lights that night, the cozy campfire gathering afterward was a memorable highlight. Snowmobiling, rated my favorite, offers an exciting blend of speed and scenic views. The route chosen was challenging enough to keep my adrenaline pumping without being overwhelming. The thick snow and natural obstacles enhanced the adventure, making it feel like a real-life Mario Kart experience. Plus, hot soup and a fire break at the end were the perfect way to warm up. Also worth mentioning is the Aurora app subscription included in our Northern Lights Village stay. It provided real-time forecasts and live hotel camera updates, which made planning our nightly excursions easier and more effective. For anyone headed to Saariselkä, balancing these excursions will give you a rich taste of Lapland’s winter magic—from educational workshops to physical challenges and adrenaline-filled rides. Remember to layer your clothing wisely, bring an open mind, and prepare for some unforgettable Arctic moments!

Rovaniemi in winter
I went to Finland in March and personally I think March is the best month to visit the nordic countries for winter activities. This is a great time because the weather is cold enough (still sub-zero) to have snow fall but it's not as freezing compared to Dec/Jan. The snow on the ground is abund

Snippets from my Sabbatical - Lofoten Islands
Hi dear readers, Just wanted to do something different from my usual financial content and share more about my sabbatical that me and my wife took earlier this year in parts! It is still an experience that lives rent free in my head and the only regret I have till date was to not have gone long

Glass Cabin for HALF the price of Aurora Hotels
➡️➡️ Swipe to see the pictures of the Northern Lights from our living room!! In planning my trip to Norway to see the #northernlights I looked around for Aurora Hotels & resorts where we would be able to see the lights from the comfort of our room. Everything I found cost more than $1,000
