Fruit of the spirit 🍋
”But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.“
Galatians 5:22-26

It’s amazing how a few verses from Galatians 5:22-26 can offer such a profound blueprint for life. When I first encountered the 'Fruit of the Spirit,' I thought, 'Wow, these are truly beautiful qualities to aspire to!' But it’s one thing to read them and another to truly live them out daily. For me, this journey has been about intentional growth and understanding what each 'fruit' really means in practice. Let’s dive into each one, from my personal perspective: First, Love (OVE). This isn't just a fleeting emotion; it's a deep, unconditional choice. I've learned that showing OVE means truly listening to my family, offering forgiveness even when it's hard, and extending grace to strangers. It's about acting with compassion, even when I don't feel like it. Then there's Joy (JOJ). This one stumped me for a while. How can you have JOJ when life gets tough? I realized it's not about being happy all the time, but finding a deep-seated peace and contentment that transcends circumstances. For me, JOJ comes from knowing I'm loved and purposed, even amidst daily struggles. Peace (PEACE) is something we all crave, isn't it? I used to chase external peace, but I've found true PEACE in surrendering my anxieties and trusting in a higher plan. It's that quiet calm in my heart, even when chaos surrounds me. Patience is probably my biggest challenge! As a wife, waiting gracefully, whether for a plan to unfold or for a child to grasp a concept, has taught me so much. It's about maintaining a calm spirit when delays and frustrations inevitably arise. Kindness is so simple, yet so powerful. A gentle word, a helping hand, a thoughtful gesture—these small acts make a huge difference. I try to practice daily acts of kindness, remembering that everyone is fighting their own battles. Goodness (NONESS) to me means living with integrity and moral excellence. It's choosing what is right, even when it's unpopular or difficult. It’s about being a person of strong, positive character, letting my actions reflect my beliefs. Faithfulness (THFULNESS) is about being reliable and trustworthy. In my relationships, it means keeping promises and being consistent. In my faith, it’s about steadfast devotion and trusting God's THFULNESS even when I can't see the path ahead. Gentleness (GENTILLV.SS) often gets mistaken for weakness, but I see it as immense strength. It’s about responding softly, with humility and respect, especially when dealing with conflict or strong emotions. It’s about choosing a calm, measured approach. And finally, Self-Control (CONTROL). This is crucial for managing our impulses and desires. Whether it's controlling my temper, my spending habits, or my screen time, CONTROL helps me make choices that align with my values and goals, rather than just reacting to every urge. Cultivating these fruits isn't always easy. It's a daily, conscious effort. It reminds me of the saying, 'a little leaven leavens the whole lump.' Just as a small amount of yeast can affect an entire batch of dough, a tiny bit of negativity or unchecked selfishness can subtly corrupt our character and influence our environment. But conversely, a little bit of intentional OVE, JOJ, or PEACE, practiced consistently, can also transform our inner being and spread positive influence to those around us. It's about being proactive in growing the good, so there's less room for the 'leaven' of our old nature to take hold. I've learned that these fruits aren't just for 'spiritual' people; they're for anyone seeking a more purposeful and fulfilling life. By focusing on growing these qualities, I've seen a positive shift in my relationships, my inner peace, and my overall well-being. It’s a beautiful journey of becoming more like the person I aspire to be, one fruit at a time.
