We love when customers send in their birds for testing but this is a perfect example of what not to do.

All of these coffee filter papers were mailed together in one envelope without being separated. When samples touch or stack like this, the blood can transfer between papers, causing cross contamination. That means we can’t guarantee which bird each DNA result belongs to and sometimes, no results at all. 😬

✅ Here’s the right way to send samples:

1️⃣ Use a clean coffee filter paper for each bird.

2️⃣ Let the blood spot dry completely (about 30 minutes).

3️⃣ Write the bird’s name + species on the paper.

4️⃣ Place each paper in its own mini zip-lock bag or folded paper sleeve or envelopes.

5️⃣ Then put all the individual samples together in one mailing envelope.
