my fav quotes from chapter 5 of atomic habits

i love that this chapter was an affirmation of the work we have done in owning habits of this series. it doesnt matter how we become aware of these habits, itks about what works for you. so far you have two examples with my habit vibe checklist and Cleaf’s habits scorecard, maybe you created your own you”d like to share 💟

honor able mention to Clear’s inclusion of Carl Jung’s quote “until you can make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”

thi quote prompted my journey into actively healing my inner wounds so that i can sustain my journey.

... Read moreReading Chapter 5 of Atomic Habits was a major affirmation for me, especially when it comes to understanding the subtle, often unconscious, power our habits hold. It's incredible how much of our day-to-day behavior is dictated by automatic actions we barely even notice. This chapter really opened my eyes to how habits – both good and bad – can take root and direct our lives without us ever dedicating conscious attention to them. It’s like the book says, you don't even need to be aware of the cue for the habit to begin. This is what makes habits so useful for productivity, but it’s also what makes them dangerous when we're trying to break unwanted patterns. This insight really resonated with me because I realized how many of my own actions were on autopilot. I used to wonder why I'd suddenly find myself scrolling on my phone or reaching for a snack without a conscious decision. Atomic Habits taught me that for true behavior change, we must begin with awareness. Before we can effectively build new habits, we need to get a handle on our current ones. This means really observing ourselves, almost like an outsider, to identify the cues and routines that make up our daily lives. I found that many of my failures in performance – whether it was sticking to a new workout routine or finishing a creative project – were largely attributable to a lack of self-awareness about my existing habits. For me, this journey into active self-awareness wasn't just about optimizing my daily routine; it became a crucial step in healing inner wounds. Carl Jung's quote, "until you can make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate," perfectly sums this up. When I started to consciously observe my habitual reactions to certain triggers, especially emotional ones, I gained the power to choose a different response. It wasn't 'fate' anymore; it was a habit I could understand and, eventually, change. This shift from unconscious reaction to conscious choice is incredibly empowering. To really put this into practice, I started using tools like a habit scorecard, similar to what the book suggests. It's a simple way to track your existing habits throughout the day and label them as positive, negative, or neutral. This helps you identify those invisible cues and understand the impact of your current ones. Journaling also became a powerful ally, allowing me to reflect on why certain habits formed and what purpose they might be serving, even if it wasn't a healthy one. If you're looking to make lasting changes, I truly believe that cultivating this deep self-awareness is the most important first step. It's a game-changer for building new habits and getting clearer on your personal growth journey!
