Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 2 is such a great game. While I am obviously not the best I had so much fun playing this PlayStation 1 classic. I got stuck on one of the levels for a good while but most of the game is such a good balance.
It's so true, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is an absolute gem, and I totally get being stuck on those levels ā itās part of the charming challenge! Playing it again really brings back memories of how PlayStation 1 classics defined a generation of gaming. I've been diving back in recently, and it's still as captivating as ever. One thing I always appreciate about Crash Bandicoot 2, especially when I revisit it, is how well its 'quality of life' features hold up, even compared to modern games. Sure, it doesn't have sprawling open worlds like some newer titles, which I know some gamers wonder about for Crash. But its linear, yet incredibly varied and cleverly designed levels, like those iconic jungle stages such as 'Hang Eight' or 'Bee-Having', are precisely what make it so engaging. Each level feels like a perfectly crafted puzzle, rewarding exploration and mastery of Crash's moves. Thereās a certain satisfaction in perfecting a run through a tricky jungle or ice level, something an open world might dilute. The sense of progression through the Warp Room, unlocking new themed areas, feels purposeful and exciting, not just a vast map to traverse. Speaking of levels, the bonus rounds in Crash 2 are genius! I remember countless hours trying to collect all the gems and crystals, often requiring me to discover hidden paths or master seemingly impossible challenges. Whether it was navigating a tricky bouncy platform sequence or outrunning a boulder, these bonus challenges added so much replayability. And let's be honest, watching yourself 'fail in Crash Bandicoot' during these intense moments is half the fun! It pushes you to improve and really understand the game's mechanics, especially when Cortex is striking back with new schemes. Those moments of frustration turn into pure triumph when you finally nail that perfect jump or clear a tough obstacle. While Crash Bandicoot 2 is primarily a fantastic single-player adventure, itās interesting how the franchise later branched out. Many people ask if Crash Bandicoot is multiplayer, and while Cortex Strikes Back isn't, games like Crash Team Racing showed how the characters could shine in a competitive setting. But for me, the core of Crash 2 is that focused, solitary journey of platforming perfection. Itās a game that doesnāt need co-op or online modes to deliver an incredible experience. It's clear why Naughty Dog, the developers behind this masterpiece, went on to create so many other beloved games. Their attention to detail, tight controls, and ability to craft compelling experiences were evident even back with titles like this 1996 PlayStation classic. For anyone who appreciates classic platformers or wants to see how a truly great game holds up over time, Crash Bandicoot 2 offers a timeless adventure. So, if you're looking for a dose of pure, unadulterated platforming fun that still feels fresh, Crash Bandicoot 2 is definitely worth another spin!
