I just made it through the first leg of my journey and will be headed to an in-person part of my Search and Rescue class out in Yorktown tomorrow! I’m perpetually tired, but it’s…kinda awesome I get to do this. I’m super stoked to work toward quals and actually be doing some good in the world! But first — Seattle! 😊
Embarking on Search and Rescue (SAR) training is both physically demanding and mentally rewarding. From my personal experience, the exhaustion felt during the first leg of the journey is a sign of true commitment rather than discouragement. Traveling to places like Seattle offers a brief but refreshing balance—exploring local cuisine, like enjoying a good steak, or simply waking up early to prepare for the rigorous days ahead helps maintain motivation. The in-person phase of SAR training, such as the upcoming sessions in Yorktown, is where practical skills really begin to take shape. This hands-on component not only trains you in effective rescue techniques but also fosters teamwork and builds confidence in high-pressure situations. Witnessing the real-world impact of these skills is deeply fulfilling; it's not just about completing a course, but about equipping yourself to make a meaningful difference. Balancing a creative career as a singer and songwriter alongside SAR training can be challenging but equally enriching. Each role informs the other—discipline and perseverance gained from SAR enhance my artistic pursuits, while creativity brings fresh perspectives to problem-solving in rescue scenarios. Sharing this journey publicly has helped me connect with others passionate about service, creativity, and personal growth. For those considering SAR, remember it’s okay to feel tired and overwhelmed at times. Embrace these moments as part of the process. Fuel yourself properly, stay curious, and allow yourself to explore new environments—even a quick trip to a hotel in a vibrant city sets the right energy. Ultimately, the path to SAR qualification is about growth, resilience, and the joy of contributing positively to your community and beyond.
