This NYC MUSEUM IS SO UNDERRATED

2025/5/20 Edited to

... Read moreI recently had the most amazing experience at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and I truly believe that when it comes to world-class institutions, museums don't get any better than this! If you're planning a trip to New York, or even if you live here and haven't been in a while, you absolutely have to add The Met to your list of must-do activities for adults in NYC. One of the biggest perks I discovered (and something that makes getting Met tickets incredibly accessible) is their special 'pay what you wish' opportunity on Friday and Saturday evenings, from 5 PM to 9 PM. While regular admission is suggested, these hours offer a fantastic chance for anyone to experience the museum without breaking the bank. It's such a brilliant way to enjoy an evening out, especially if you're looking for a unique and cultured date night idea in NYC. Imagine strolling through ancient artifacts or admiring masterpieces with your special someone – it’s far more engaging than just another dinner! For residents of New York State and students from NY, NJ, and CT, the 'pay what you wish' policy actually applies at all times, which is amazing for local art lovers. For everyone else, those Friday and Saturday evenings are a real treat. Beyond the tickets, what truly makes The Met one of the top museums in New York is its sheer scale and the incredible diversity of its collections. You could spend days here and still not see everything! For a memorable adult activity, I love heading straight to the Temple of Dendur in the Egyptian wing – it’s breathtaking, especially with the Central Park views. The European Sculpture and Decorative Arts galleries are also stunning, and if you visit in warmer months, don't miss the Cantor Roof Garden. The panoramic views of the city skyline and Central Park are just spectacular, making it a perfect spot to relax and discuss the art you've seen. It truly elevates the experience beyond just looking at art on a wall. To make the most of your visit, I always recommend looking at the Met's website beforehand to check their current exhibitions and hours. It can get busy, so arriving a bit earlier or during those evening hours can help you avoid the biggest crowds. Wear comfortable shoes – you'll be doing a lot of walking! And don't feel pressured to see everything. Pick a few wings or periods that interest you most and really immerse yourself. Whether you're into ancient Greek and Roman art, medieval armor, or modern masterpieces, The Met offers something for every taste. It's not just a museum; it's an experience that consistently earns rave metropolitan museum of art reviews from visitors worldwide. Seriously, among all the museums in Manhattan, this one consistently stands out as a true treasure near Central Park. It’s an essential part of the New York museums landscape, offering an unparalleled journey through human history and creativity.
