Ocean City, Day One!☀️

Had a little weekend getaway to Ocean City, Maryland! First we stopped half way through the car ride at a Walmart that had the best kids toy section. We had too much fun playing with baby girl and seeing which toys she liked. Then we got to our hotel just in time for check in and quickly made our way to the beach where we played for a few hours before dinner. The perfect first day 🥰🏖️☀️🌊🐚

We just had the most incredible first day, and I wanted to share some thoughts for planning your own trip to make it just as perfect! Planning Your Ocean City, MD Family Trip Traveling with a baby or young children can be a marathon, not a sprint! Our stop halfway through the car ride at a Walmart with an amazing kids' toy section was an absolute lifesaver. It broke up the journey, allowed our little one to stretch her legs, and even pick out a fun new toy (a toy lightsaber, no less!). My biggest tip for road trips with kids is to plan for these unexpected stops. Look for parks, rest areas with playgrounds, or even just a large store where they can wander a bit. It makes the entire travel experience so much more enjoyable for everyone, ensuring you arrive in Ocean City feeling refreshed and ready for adventure. Choosing the Right Accommodation When planning an Ocean City, MD weekend getaway, choosing the right hotel makes all the difference, especially with a family. We knew we wanted to be right on the beach, which was perfect for quick access to the sand and waves. Many hotels, like the prominent ones you'll see along the coast, including those resembling the 'Oceans Edge' from the photos, offer fantastic family-friendly amenities. Look for places with kitchenettes if you plan to do some light cooking, or at least a fridge for snacks and drinks. Proximity to amenities like pools, laundry facilities, and even easy access to the Boardwalk can really enhance your stay. It means less packing and unpacking for beach days, and more time making memories like playing in the sand or watching the waves with your little one. Making the Most of Beach Time with Toddlers Our first day was all about the beach, and it was pure magic! For beach days with a toddler, a good sand bucket and shovel set is absolutely golden – it kept our baby girl entertained for ages. We also packed a small pop-up tent for shade and plenty of snacks and water to stay hydrated. Those gentle Ocean City waves are so much fun for little ones to splash in, but always keep them within arm's reach. Seeing them, like the child in the swimsuit with the blue bucket, experience the ocean for the first time is truly unforgettable. Don't forget plenty of sunscreen and a change of clothes for after the beach fun! Beyond the Beach: Other Family Fun While our first day was focused on the sand and sea, Ocean City has so much more to offer for a family weekend. You can stroll the iconic boardwalk – usually less crowded in the mornings – or check out some of the mini-golf courses that dot the town. We saw so many fun things we want to try next time, like the arcades, amusement park rides (seasonal), or even a pirate ship cruise! For dining, there are countless family-friendly restaurants, and you absolutely must grab some classic boardwalk fries or Thrasher's. These activities can provide a nice change of pace from beach days, especially if you get a cloudy afternoon or just want to explore a bit more. Insider Tip: Best Time to Visit If you're planning an Ocean City, MD weekend trip, consider going slightly off-peak if your schedule allows. We found it busy but manageable, but shoulder seasons (late spring or early fall) can offer fantastic weather with fewer crowds. This means easier parking, shorter lines for food and attractions, and a more relaxed overall atmosphere. Just remember to book your accommodations in advance, especially for popular weekends, no matter the season! Overall, an Ocean City, MD weekend getaway is absolutely perfect for families. Our first day set the tone for a truly memorable trip, filled with laughter and sunshine, and I can't wait to share more of our adventures. Hope these tips help you plan your own perfect family adventure!
