Honeydew
⭐️⭐️ (2/5)
Well… that was a wild ride. I had a solid “WTF” face plastered on from start to finish, and honestly, I’m still not sure what I watched. Honeydew is one of those slow-burn, surreal horror flicks that doesn’t care if you’re confused — in fact, it wants you to be.
It centers around a young couple who end up stranded and are “helped” by an unnervingly sweet (but creepy) elderly woman. Of course it’s the old woman — because in horror, that’s practically a guarantee something’s off. And here? Oh, it’s very off. She’s unsettling in a way that creeps under your skin and just stays there.
There’s a strange, thick atmosphere of religious undertones mixed with disturbing themes of cannibalism. Yep, you read that right — it’s like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre met an indie cult film with some scripture thrown in. The unsettling sound design and off-kilter pacing only make the experience weirder (in both good and bad ways).
Not for everyone. If you like your horror with a side of what-did-I-just-watch, this one’s for you. As for me? I’ll be side-eyeing old ladies offering me dinner for the foreseeable future.
