Meet Me In Two Languages
Most of you probably don't know this, but I love languages. So, come and meet me in two languages - English, my native tongue and Arabic (Egyptian), the language I've been learning for five years. If you read my first book, The Songbird's Shadow then you already met Malik, the character I wrote for my teacher who, like Malik, is incredibly kind (but unlike Malik, would make the worst arms dealer ever).
I'm hoping that very soon, I can go on my dream trip to Egypt (where I'll also get to finally meet my friend and teacher in person). If I have any readers who speak Arabic (and can forgive me for my broken language), come and say hi!

Learning a new language like Egyptian Arabic has been a rewarding challenge for me over the past five years. Although I consider English my mother tongue, immersing myself in Arabic has opened doors to understanding a rich culture and connecting with fascinating people beyond the written word. One great tip I've found helpful is to embrace making mistakes—it's part of the journey toward fluency. When I wrote my first book, The Songbird's Shadow, I drew inspiration from my Arabic teacher by crafting the kind character Malik. Writing fiction really helped me deepen my connection to the language, especially since my teacher's kindness shone through Malik's personality despite the dark themes of my novels. I am eagerly looking forward to visiting Egypt soon to meet my teacher and explore the country firsthand. For anyone else learning a language, whether Arabic or another, I recommend engaging with native speakers and using multiple learning methods—from apps to cultural experiences—to keep things exciting and effective.
