When I first got my hands on this white camper van, I knew it was going to be more than just a vehicle – it was going to be my very own van house. It’s truly something I love, watching this dream unfold. Starting a campervan project can feel a bit daunting, but let me tell you, the planning phase is half the fun! For me, it all began with sketching out layouts. How do I want the bed? Where will the kitchenette go? Do I need a portable toilet? These were all questions swirling in my head. I spent hours browsing other van builds, getting inspiration for compact living and clever storage solutions. Deciding on a white camper van was a conscious choice; I love the clean look, and it reflects sunlight, which is a huge plus in warmer climates! One of the first things I focused on for the exterior was adding some personal flair. You might have noticed the spare tire cover with an American flag and an eagle – that was one of my first custom touches! While the main body of the van remains its original white, this personalized cover definitely adds character and a sense of patriotism. It’s not a full painted camper van yet, but these small details make it uniquely mine. I've also been looking into durable, protective coatings for the exterior to ensure it withstands all our adventures. Inside, the transformation into a cozy van house is truly underway. Insulation was key to make sure it's comfortable in all seasons. I’ve been building a modular bed frame that converts into a sofa, maximizing the living space. For cooking, a small portable stove and a tiny sink are perfect for whipping up meals on the road. Storage is always a challenge in a small space, so every nook and cranny is being optimized. You can see from the outside, I've already added a rear cargo carrier with red containers – these are incredibly practical for tools, extra fuel, or even my climbing gear without taking up precious interior space. This campervan project is definitely a journey, not a destination. There are days when I'm covered in sawdust, feeling like I'll never finish, and then there are moments when I step back, see a new piece come together, and feel an immense sense of accomplishment. It’s more than just building a vehicle; it’s about crafting a lifestyle of freedom and adventure. What about you? Have you ever thought about converting a van? Or maybe you have some clever tips for maximizing space in a van house? I’d love to hear your ideas and experiences in the comments below! Wish me luck on the next steps of my campervan project!
