Never throw away your green onions

Recycling your old green onions.

... Read moreI used to throw away the white root ends of green onions without realizing you can easily regrow them at home. Simply save the roots after using the green parts, place them in a glass with a little water, and within days you'll see new green shoots sprouting. This method not only helps reduce kitchen waste but also provides a continuous fresh supply of green onions for salads, soups, and more. Make sure to change the water every couple of days to keep it fresh and prevent mold. Once the green shoots reach a couple of inches tall, you can trim what you need and let them keep growing. This is a fantastic way to recycle your green onions and save money. Beyond regrowing, you can also compost leftover green onion parts or add them to homemade vegetable broths to maximize their value in the kitchen. Using scraps creatively is an easy step towards sustainable cooking and reducing food waste at home. Incorporating this simple habit into your routine has made a noticeable difference for me in reducing waste and always having fresh green onions on hand. I encourage everyone to give it a try and enjoy the benefits it brings to your cooking and the environment.

how often do you change the water? sounds silly but mine is never clear after 2/3 days. I change it then they slowly rot

When you planted in pot what kind of soil you use? When you get ready for some do you just cut the tops off and repeat every time you need some?
