Hayasui Hime Shrine (Hayasui Hime Jinja) located in Kamae Nishinoura, Saiki City is a venerable shrine that is said to have been founded in 1145.
As the chief deity, Sumiyoshi Sanjin (Kamizutsu Otoshin, Nakatsutsu Otoshin, Sototsu Otoshin) who governs the safety of the voyage and the sea are enshrined, and Kagutsuchi no Mikoto and Kotoshiro no Mikoto are calmed down in Aiden ⚓
🌿 highlight is the Goshinkosai festival held every two years.
In this festival, three portable shrines are paraded around the area, and eight drums accompanying each portable shrine perform heroically. The rhythm of the drums that resonate with the sound of the flute is a traditional sound that resonates with the heart.

These eight drums and shishimai are designated as intangible folk cultural properties of Oita Prefecture and are the pride of the region 🎌

「祈っておこうかな、航海の無事を」——そんな気持ちになったとき、私が思い出すのが大分県佐伯市蒲江の早吸日女神社です。海のそばの土地に長く守られてきた神社で、住吉三神（上筒男神・中筒男神・底筒男神）が祀られていると知ると、船に乗る予定がなくても自然と手を合わせたくなりました。 参拝してまず印象に残ったのは、石造りの鳥居と太い注連縄。額に刻まれた「早吸日女神社」の文字を見上げると、旅のスイッチが入る感じがします。参道の先には集落と山々が広がっていて、海辺の神社らしい“暮らしと信仰が地続き”の空気がありました。境内の狛犬は赤い目が特徴的で、静かなのにどこか力強い雰囲気。社殿の白い瓦屋根と注連縄もきれいで、写真を撮る手が止まりませんでした。 航海安全の祈願をするなら、私は次の流れが落ち着きました。①鳥居の前で一礼→②手水があれば手と口を清める→③賽銭→④二礼二拍手一礼。お願いごとは「無事に帰る」「事故なく終える」など、具体的に短く心の中で伝えるとスッとまとまります。船旅だけでなく、釣り、マリンスポーツ、海沿いの長距離運転にも“海の安全”として重ねられるのが、この神社の良さだと思いました。 もしタイミングが合うなら、2年ごとの御神幸祭は本当に特別。三基の神輿が練り歩き、各神輿に付き添う八人太鼓が鳴り響くと、音が体に直接届くような迫力があります。笛と太鼓のリズムが重なる瞬間、見ている側も自然と背筋が伸びて、「地域みんなで無事を祈っている」一体感に包まれました。獅子舞や花踊りも加わり、神事というより“海辺の大きな舞台”を見ている感覚です。 最後に豆知識。「早吸（はやすい）」という名は、潮流が早く吸い込まれるような地形に由来すると聞きました。海とともに生きてきた土地だからこそ、航海の無事を祈る言葉がしっくりきます。静かな日も、お祭りの日も、早吸日女神社は“海に向けて祈る場所”。旅の安全祈願として、ぜひ一度立ち寄ってみてください。
