PICKY, PICKY

On a lucky draw I was blessed with a boy and a girl and closed up shop. My 10yo son was not a picky eater. His favorite food is BRUSSEL SPROUTS for crying out loud. He tried everything at least once and for the most part seems to like everything that you put in front of him. Fast forward 5 years and a beautiful oops later came my daughter. This chick is a force to come across. She is 4yo and KNOWS exactly what she wants, what she doesn’t want, and knows how she wants it. She is extremely critical of every dinner meal that I cook, fast food meal we buy, and will hold out until the very last minute. No red pasta and no veggies because you know broccoli looks like trees. Who wants trees growing in their belly 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. She is simple, straight to the point, no chaser and oh so stubborn. How do you all navigate the dinner table with your picky eaters?? I would love any meal time ideas or just share some of your anecdotes about your mealtime woes because at this point I’m laughing through the frustration. #lemon8parenting #lemon8pickykids #dinnertime #shareyourthoughts #lunchtime #parenting #kidsfood #healthylifestyle2024 #groceryessentials #lemon8newbie

... Read moreDealing with picky eaters can be a daunting task for parents. Many families face this common challenge, especially when children exhibit strong preferences for specific foods. One effective approach is to involve kids in meal preparation, allowing them to help choose and cook the dishes. This not only empowers them but also encourages a sense of ownership over what they eat. Offering a variety of food options without pressure can also help expand their palate. Consider creating a colorful plate filled with fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains to make meals visually appealing. Another useful strategy is to introduce new foods gradually. You might pair a preferred food with something new, giving children the chance to try it in a less intimidating way. Positive reinforcement is key; praising children when they do try something new can build their confidence. Social experiences can also play a role. Eating with friends or family can influence children to try dishes they may otherwise refuse. Lastly, patience is crucial. By maintaining a no-stress environment during mealtime and allowing kids to explore their preferences, parents can foster healthier eating habits over time.
