Finally tried British Hainan for dinner 🍽️ ✨

Had dinner at British Hainan and honestly… it’s such a comforting East-meets-West experience 🤍✨

If you love nostalgic Hainanese-Western food with that old-school kopitiam charm, this place hits differently.

🍛 Hainanese Pork Chop Rice

Crispy, well-breaded pork cutlet drenched in that signature tangy-brown gravy. The rice was fragrant and paired perfectly with the achar + veggies. Very nostalgic kopitiam vibes but slightly elevated.

🥘 Beef Stew with Bread

Super hearty and rich! The stew was thick, slightly sweet and savoury, with tender beef chunks and soft carrots & potatoes. Dipping the toasted baguette into the gravy = chef’s kiss. Comfort food level 100.

🥣 Curry Dip with Toasted Bread (Starter)

Creamy, aromatic and mildly spicy. Simple but addictive.

🍺 Beer to complete the meal

Ordered a cold bottle of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord – light, smooth and easy to drink. Perfect pairing with the rich gravy dishes.

✨ Overall Thoughts:

• Portions are generous

• Food feels nostalgic yet refined

• Great for casual dinner dates or catch-ups

• Price is reasonable for the quality

Will I come back? Yes 👍 Especially when craving that Hainanese-Western comfort combo.

... Read moreWhen trying out British Hainan, I was pleasantly surprised by how seamlessly they blend traditional Hainanese flavors with British culinary influences to create comforting yet refined dishes. The hallmark here is definitely the nostalgia—the kind of warm, familiar taste that brings back memories of Singapore's old-school kopitiams but presented with a modern twist. One dish that stood out was the Hainanese Pork Chop Rice. The pork chop was perfectly breaded and crispy, coated in a tangy brown gravy that tasted just right—not too sweet, not too heavy. Pairing it with fragrant rice and achar (a tangy pickled vegetable side) enhanced the experience significantly. For anyone who enjoys fusion food with roots in heritage, this dish captures that essence beautifully. The beef stew with bread was another highlight—thick, rich, and flavorful, the stew had tender chunks of beef that practically melted in the mouth alongside soft carrots and potatoes. Dipping the toasted baguette into the gravy was simple yet so satisfying, elevating the enjoyment of every bite. Starting the meal with the curry dip alongside toasted bread was a clever touch. The curry was creamy, aromatic, and had a mild heat that whetted the appetite without overpowering. It’s a reminder that even simple starters can make a big impact when done right. Last but not least, finishing the meal paired splendidly with Timothy Taylor’s Landlord beer. Its light and smooth profile balanced the richness of the dishes and added a refreshing note to the overall dining experience. From a personal perspective, British Hainan is ideal for casual dining occasions like dinner dates or catch-ups with friends, thanks to the generous portions and reasonable prices. This spot truly shines by evoking nostalgia while keeping offerings fresh and elevated, making it a recommended stop for anyone craving comforting Hainanese-Western cuisine in Singapore. If you love exploring food spots that combine heritage charm with contemporary tastes, British Hainan’s menu will definitely hit the mark, especially when you’re in the mood for that comforting East-meets-West flavor fusion.
