Using heavy whipping cream as the base, you can whip it for about 20 minutes until the butter fat separates from the milk. The remaining buttermilk can be used in pancakes or baked goods, reducing waste. Once your butter forms, rinse it under cold water to remove any remaining buttermilk and squeeze out excess moisture for a creamier texture. You can then season it to your liking—think sea salt, herbs, garlic, or even honey for a sweet twist. Homemade butter can be stored in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks or frozen for a month, ensuring you always have fresh butter available. This practice not only enriches your cooking experience but also promotes healthier eating habits by avoiding preservatives found in store-bought options.
