DRAWING LABUBU - Plush KeyChain - Mini Tutorial🩷

Okay, so I decided to finally do a Labubu drawing. I wasn't sure at first because they look a little weird, don't come for me!🫢😄

HOWEVER, I will say it is kinda cute.😊🩷

I hope this mini tutorial gives you a basic guide of the process I used to achieve this Labubu drawing.

DURATION:

This piece took me about 2-3 hours to complete with breaks in between.

TOOLS/MATERIALS:

🩷 Toned grey paper (Bristol Strathmore).

🩷 Prismacolors Premiere-Soft Core.

🩷Posca 0.7mm white pen (for the eyes and strong highlights).

🩷Ohuhu Alcohol markers ( for the base colors).

🩷 Mechanical pencils OR any HB pencil.

TIPS:

✏️Trust the process - it's going to look kind of crazy in the beginning.

✏️ Take it slow and be patient for better results.

✏️ Remember to let your alcohol marker dry before going over with your colored pencil. This ensures a suitable surface for layering and blending. (They do dry pretty quickly).

✏️Always remember your reference image to help guide you along the way.

✏️ Play around with colors, you don't have to stick to the same color combo as me. Add some blues, reds, oranges and purples help to enhance any colored pencil drawing.

... Read moreIt's so exciting to see so many of you interested in drawing Labubu! When I first started this piece, I wasn't entirely sure how it would turn out, especially capturing that unique pink furry Labubu plush keychain charm. But trust me, with a few extra pointers, you'll be creating your own adorable Labubu in no time! Let's dive a little deeper into the process. Beyond the basic steps, getting that 'plush' look right is key. For the initial sketch, a mechanical pencil is your best friend. Start with simple shapes – a rounded rectangle for the body, circles for the head and ears, and then refine them. Don't worry if it looks a bit rough; that's part of the 'trust the process' magic! Pay close attention to the eyes and mouth; they really give Labubu its personality. Many people wonder how to make the eyes pop, and that's where the white gel pen comes in, creating those sparkling highlights. When it comes to coloring, my combination of Ohuhu alcohol markers for the base and Prismacolor colored pencils for detailing is a game-changer. The alcohol markers lay down a smooth, even base color quickly. For our *pink Labubu*, apply a light pink first, then build up darker shades in areas that would naturally be in shadow. After the markers dry (which they do quickly!), grab your colored pencils. This is where you can truly create that furry texture. Use short, feathery strokes following the contours of Labubu's body. Layering lighter pinks, whites, and even a touch of peach or cream can add depth. Don't be afraid to press harder for richer colors and lighter for softer transitions. A useful tip I discovered for getting colors just right is to create color swatches on a separate piece of the same toned grey paper you're using. This helps you see how the colors will truly appear before applying them to your main drawing. Toned paper, by the way, is fantastic because it allows you to work with both light and dark values, making your highlights and shadows really stand out. If you're struggling with proportions or getting the pose right, remember to always refer back to your reference image. Sometimes it helps to flip your drawing upside down or look at it in a mirror; this can highlight areas that need adjustment. And don't feel limited to just pink! While the pink Labubu is iconic, experimenting with blues, purples, or even rainbow colors can make your drawing uniquely yours. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the creative journey. Every drawing is a step forward in your artistic skill!
