Having recently watched the new Wuthering Heights movie adaptation, I felt compelled to share my personal experience, especially as someone who deeply appreciates the original novel. While I was initially excited to see how the filmmakers would interpret this classic tale, I was left feeling underwhelmed. The movie tries to retell the intense and complex story of love and revenge, but unfortunately, it simplifies much of the novel’s rich emotional layers into a rather standard tragic romance. The depth and darkness that made the book so compelling were largely replaced by a straightforward narrative that missed the nuances. The performances by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi were fine, but the weak script made it hard to fully engage or connect with their characters. One aspect that stood out was the marketing, which appeared to focus on teasing a steamy and provocative storyline. However, the film did not deliver on this promise, leaving viewers who were drawn in by such advertising feeling misled. This mismatch between promotion and content detracted from the overall viewing experience. As a fan of romance films, particularly romantic comedies, I approached this movie hoping for either a faithful adaptation or an interesting new angle, perhaps something more emotional or passionate. Instead, I found it too plain and lacking the spirit that the novel carries. For those who love literature or expect a rich, intense drama, this film may prove disappointing. Overall, while it’s not the worst movie I’ve seen, it falls short of the emotional impact and storytelling depth of the Wuthering Heights novel. I’d give it a 4 out of 10, especially because it feels hollow compared to the book’s powerful narrative.
