As a longtime fan of The Boys, I’ve noticed that the world building in Season 5 doesn’t quite hit the mark like it did in the earlier seasons. One big difference I felt was that superheroes used to come across as real celebrities who influenced everyday life visibly. For instance, in Season 1, seeing characters like Homelander interact with the public, such as asking for photos or being recognized on national talk shows, gave the world a very tangible and realistic atmosphere. However, in Season 5, this sense of realism seems to have diminished. The storyline involving Homelander exerting oppressive control, like putting people into camps, should realistically cause massive public outcry and international fallout. Yet, the show doesn't explore this fully, leaving the scenario feeling hollow and less believable. It’s almost as if the season focuses too narrowly on character drama without showing the broader impact these characters have on politics, media, and society. Another example that stood out to me was the treatment of Firecracker’s arc in Season 4. Her public forgiveness and media response felt rushed and didn’t reflect the complicated reactions you’d expect from such events in real life. This selective portrayal weakens the world-building, making the superpower-influenced society seem less dynamic than before. In my experience, for a show like The Boys to maintain its compelling edge, it needs to balance character-driven stories with credible world-building that reflects how society adapts or reacts to these superpowered figures. More attention to consequences, such as media influence, government reactions, and public sentiment, would enhance the season’s depth and believability. Overall, while I still enjoy the core characters and plot twists, I hope future seasons pay more attention to fleshing out the world around them. Doing so would restore the immersive feel that made the early seasons so captivating.
