... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited to share more about my current work-in-progress, 'The Hunt.' When I started brainstorming, I knew I wanted to dive deep into a few tropes that always hook me as a reader: the classic boss/employee dynamic, a brother's best friend twist, and of course, a truly growly, overprotective male main character (MMC).
There's just something inherently captivating about a character developing feelings for their boss. The forbidden aspect, the power imbalance, the tension of professional boundaries blurring into something much more intimate—it’s a goldmine for conflict and delicious slow-burn romance. As an author, exploring this dynamic allows for so many layers of emotional complexity. How does the employee navigate their feelings without jeopardizing their career? How does the boss, often accustomed to control, handle a situation where their heart is completely on the line?
For 'The Hunt,' I'm really leaning into the 'growly overprotective MMC' trope. I adore heroes who might seem a bit rough around the edges or intense, but whose protectiveness stems from a deep, unwavering love for their leading lady. It's about finding that balance where his protective nature is swoon-worthy, not suffocating. And to add even more delicious drama, I’ve thrown in an ex who definitely stirs the pot. A cheating ex provides an excellent antagonist and a catalyst for the MMC to truly step up and prove his worth, showing just how far he'll go to protect the woman he's falling for.
My mood board for 'The Hunt' has been instrumental in visualizing the world and the characters. Seeing images, like a distinguished 'man in a suit' paired with a graceful 'woman in a white robe, sitting intimately,' helps me craft their chemistry and their professional yet deeply personal connection. These visuals guide me in setting the scene, from the formal office environment to the intimate moments where their true feelings surface. It helps me imagine how they interact, how their bodies might betray their unspoken desires, and how their world feels as they navigate these intense emotions.
Crafting a spicy romance means not shying away from the heat, but ensuring it's always rooted in character and plot. The spice needs to serve the story, deepening the emotional connection and showing the progression of their relationship, rather than feeling tacked on. It’s about building that undeniable tension and then letting it explode in a way that feels authentic to their journey. I love exploring how these characters, especially when one is a boss and the other an employee, find their way to vulnerability and passion despite the initial professional barriers. It's a journey I can't wait for you all to read!
