For anyone else thinking of diving into content creation, let me tell you, it's a mix of excitement, nerves, and sometimes, absolute brain-farts when it comes to what to film next.
My channel, 'Joii' (@Joiibutterfly), is still super new – I literally just hit four subscribers, which feels like a huge milestone already! My latest video, 'Let's Yap... I ramble ... why do guys ...?', was so much fun to make. I just love talking and sharing my thoughts, and it's been amazing to see even a few people engaging with it. My first video, 'Smoke with me... kinda n...', was also a very personal reflection. I think what I'm learning is that authenticity really resonates.
One of the biggest struggles, especially when you're just starting with only two videos under your belt, is coming up with fresh, consistent content ideas. It's why I'm always asking you guys for suggestions! Seriously, your input helps so much. Sometimes I try to brainstorm around topics I'm passionate about, like beauty, lifestyle, or just daily musings. Other times, I look at trending topics or challenges to see if I can put my own spin on them.
For anyone out there, whether you're a new YouTuber or just a viewer who loves to support creators, what kind of videos do you genuinely enjoy watching? Do you like deep dives, casual vlogs, or maybe something completely different? I'm trying to figure out my niche and what truly sticks. I've been thinking about doing more 'story time' videos, or maybe even some Q&As if I get enough questions.
And for my fellow new creators, finding a community is key. I've seen a few people mention 'sub for sub' – while it can get you initial numbers, I'm really trying to focus on organic growth and connecting with people who genuinely enjoy my content. Building a supportive network of other YouTubers has been really encouraging too. We share tips, celebrate small wins, and sometimes just vent about the algorithm!
The journey of a content creator, especially a Black content creator, comes with its own unique perspectives and challenges, but also incredible opportunities to share diverse stories and experiences. I hope to inspire others and build a welcoming space. So, if you're looking for someone to yap with, laugh with, and explore new ideas, Joii's channel is the place for you! Don't forget to subscribe and let me know your video ideas – my brain is ready for your creativity!
