Your mental health is so important

There is such a stigma on mental health in the

Hispanic/Latino Community

For a Hispanic/ Latino women are told Calladita Te

Ves Mas Bonita ( You are more pretty when you are

quiet) or

La ropa se lava en la casa ( don't air out your dirty

laundry in public.)

We are SO wrapped in our culture values like

Familismo , Marianismo, can make it difficult

to seek mental health , which then will suffer from

depression or anxiety.

Did you know that Suicide is the third leading cause

of death among Hispanic and Latino Americans

ages 10-24, so we need to stop with the En mis

tempos la depression no extista, you're just bored

go clean, or if you are depressed they send you to

church because only locos go to therapy or take

Antidepressants.

Mujeres, let's not worry about the El Que Diran. Your

mental health is important. If you need help on

grief, depression, anxiety, SA, domestic violence

or help to heal your inner ninna, seek out mental

health care from doctors, therapists, and counselors

Break those generational traumas,

And the saying los hombre no van a terapia es cosa

de mujeres that is so machista.

No more Calladita Te Ves Mas Bonita

Es tu momento de sanar y volar

Many people grow up hearing that ‘calladita te ves más bonita’—you are prettier when you’re quiet—which can lead to emotional suppression. It’s crucial to challenge these cultural norms that propagate stigma around mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Many individuals face generational pressures that discourage open discussions about mental illness, leading to devastating consequences like suicide, which is notably the third leading cause of death among younger Hispanic and Latino individuals. Seeking mental health care from qualified professionals is a brave step towards healing and breaking cycles of trauma. Therapy is not just for women, and we must dismantle the machista idea that it’s a sign of weakness for men to seek support. Emphasizing self-care and mental wellness is essential for everyone’s health. Remember, it's time to ‘sanar y volar’—heal and soar. Engage in conversations about mental health, and encourage those around you to prioritize their well-being.
