Conversely, an open circuit breaks the loop and stops the current, which is why a light bulb won't light up if there’s a break. Switches act as control elements by opening or closing the circuit. When the switch is off, the circuit opens and current stops; when it’s on, the circuit closes and current flows. Understanding this concept helped me troubleshoot simple electrical problems—for example, when a bulb doesn’t light, checking for an open circuit (like a loose wire or switch off) is often the first step.
