Mason aka “ Nugget “ was afraid of a statue.. he has a “Thing “ with objects & we’re working on it. 🙃 Mason was a bottle baby, so he was never taught how to approach the world from a dog’s point of view. 🥹
We help him learn that the world 🌎 around him does not have to be so scary after all.
Nugget loves his dad 💜 he trusts him more than anyone on this planet! ❤️ so dad does what “dads do” and confronted the scarrryyyy statue. 😱😳
A few minutes of barking and a little help from his favorite human…
Mason sits down and is focused on something else 👌 Now this statue is no longer a threat while on our walks. 😬🤗
Be kind and show your dog the world isn’t so scary, it’s their first time experiencing, exploring & learning this world too 🙃

Rescue dogs often face unique challenges because they might not have been socialized properly during their early development stages, especially "bottle babies" who miss out on learning natural dog behaviors from their mothers and littermates.
Objects such as statues, unfamiliar noises, or new environments can trigger anxiety or fear in rescue dogs. To help them adjust, owners should introduce feared objects gradually and in a controlled way, pairing exposure with treats and praise to build positive associations.
Building trust between the dog and owner is paramount since trust acts as the foundation for confidence. Just as Mason trusts his dad above all else, developing a strong, caring relationship encourages the dog to feel safe and supported when facing fears.
Experts recommend obedience training and desensitization techniques, which can involve approaching the fearful object slowly over repeated sessions, allowing the dog to observe it without feeling pressured. Offering distractions or redirecting attention, as Mason’s dad did, helps the dog focus on something comforting rather than the scary object.
Additionally, socialization with other dogs and safe exposure to new experiences can gradually reduce overall anxiety. Using a calm and reassuring approach increases the likelihood that a rescue dog will adapt to the world around them without being overwhelmed.
This process requires consistency, patience, and kindness from the owner. Remember that every dog’s timeline will vary, and progress might be slow but steady. Encouraging exploration and offering comfort lets rescue dogs like Mason learn that the world isn’t as intimidating as it first seems.
By sharing stories like Mason’s, dog owners can gain inspiration and practical strategies to support dogs with fear or anxiety, helping them lead happy, confident lives.
