Life Goes On

It's a question that often pops into my head: 'Why do people change?' I think we all see it, whether it's ourselves evolving over time, or friends and family taking different paths. It’s not always easy to understand, but I've come to realize that change is such a fundamental part of being human. From my own experience, I've noticed a few big reasons. Sometimes it's about personal growth. As we get older, learn new things, or face challenges, our perspectives naturally shift. What seemed important in our twenties might not hold the same weight in our thirties, right? It's like shedding an old skin and stepping into a new one. This internal drive to grow and improve is a powerful force that continuously reshapes our identities and priorities. Then there are life events – the big ones, good and bad. A new job, moving to a different city, starting a new relationship, or even going through a heartbreak can fundamentally alter who we are. These experiences push us to adapt, to re-evaluate our priorities, and often, to become stronger or more compassionate. Think about how becoming a parent changes someone, or how overcoming a significant challenge can build resilience you never knew you had. These moments force us to reconfigure our understanding of the world and our place in it. I also think about relationships. The people we surround ourselves with can have a huge impact. Sometimes, we change to better align with a partner or friends, or conversely, we change because a relationship has ended and we're rediscovering ourselves. It's a two-way street, where we influence others and they influence us. Our social circles act like mirrors, reflecting back parts of ourselves and sometimes inspiring us to adjust or evolve. And let's not forget our environment. The culture we live in, the trends, the information we consume – it all plays a role. What's accepted or valued can shift, leading us to adjust our own behaviors or beliefs. It’s not always about being fake; it’s about responding to the world around us in an authentic way that feels right for who we are becoming. The constant flow of information and societal shifts inevitably seeps into our personal frameworks, subtly altering our perspectives. The tricky part is, change isn't always positive or easy to accept, especially when it’s someone we care about. But understanding why people change can help us be more empathetic. It's often not a conscious decision to be different, but a natural progression driven by internal and external forces. We can't put life on pause, and neither can the people in it. For me, learning to embrace change – both in myself and in others – has been key to finding peace. It’s about accepting that 'life goes on' and with it, everyone evolves.
