Text Messages I’ve received that Altered my Brain
From besties, boys, and my father 😮💨#messagesfrommyboyfriend #toxicrelationship
Okay, so I've been reflecting on some of the wild text messages I've received over the years, and honestly, some of them have truly lived rent-free in my head! It's crazy how a few lines of text can stick with you, sometimes making you laugh, sometimes making you seriously question things, and other times, sparking a wave of anxiety. I often find myself wondering, 'What type of text message is this even?!' Let's just say, my phone has been a window into the bizarre, the beautiful, and the downright baffling. From the unintentionally hilarious to messages that feel like a subtle attack, I've seen it all. Take for instance, the time I got a message saying, 'I need you to come over this week and tell me if my house smells like cat piss.' Like, what do you even say to that?! Or the one that tried to flirt by saying, 'I know I say this everytime I see you but you get better looking every time I see you.' Sweet, but a bit repetitive, right? Then there's the truly unexpected humor, like 'Yo my dogs looking for a stepdad' – that one definitely made me chuckle. These are the lighter types of text messages that just add a bit of spice to life. But then there are the texts that hit differently, the ones that really make you pause. We all know those anxiety text messages that pop up and instantly make your stomach drop. I've had my share! There's a fine line between a declaration of affection and something that feels a little… intense. Like the message, 'Tryna get strong so I can kill anyone for ya.' At first, it might seem romantic, but then you read it again and you're like, 'Wait, that's a bit much!' It's the kind of message that can actually trigger some serious unease, especially if you're already prone to overthinking or deal with anxiety. And speaking of anxiety, I once received a text that was a real head-scratcher: 'Really toxic thought but what if I went off my anxiety meds to see if Cole can handle me at my worst.' This one really got me thinking about the emotional manipulation that can sometimes hide in plain sight. It’s hard not to feel a pang of concern or even a bit of pressure when someone shares something so raw and potentially self-sabotaging. It's a classic example of an anxiety text message that can make you feel responsible for someone else's emotional regulation. Then there are the just plain insulting ones, masquerading as 'jokes' or 'observations'. I still can't get over the text that casually dropped, 'It's cuz your eggs are dying, your body is getting ready for old age.' Seriously? Who says that?! Or the one after a rough patch: 'Hope you're enjoying being single. I'm loving it. Do you think you will ever have children.' It's like they're trying to subtly jab at your deepest fears or insecurities. And the classic, 'Don't block my number again ok lol,' which just screams 'toxic cycle.' These are definitely the types of text messages that fuel overthinking and can leave you feeling drained. It's taught me a lot about setting boundaries and recognizing red flags, even in text form. Sometimes, the best response is no response, or a clear, firm boundary. Our phones are such a central part of our lives, and the messages we receive can genuinely impact our mental state. I think it's important to acknowledge that and protect our peace. What kinds of texts have you received that have totally blown your mind or given you a dose of anxiety?
