My son Abide joined his first basketball league, so we had to lock in and get some quality father and son practice sessions in. He is the smallest kid on his team and at his first week he didn’t make a shot, but he locked in with me to diligently practice with me and now he is making the most shots on the team. I’m so proud of mu big boy.
Watching my son grow and improve in basketball has been a truly rewarding experience. When he first joined the league, he was clearly the smallest kid on the court and struggled to make a shot. But what stood out the most to me was his determination and willingness to practice hard every day. We spent countless hours focused just on shooting drills and dribbling skills, which helped build his confidence tremendously. One thing I noticed was how this practice time deepened our bond. It wasn’t just training for basketball; it became quality father-son time where we shared encouragement and celebrated every small victory. I believe this emotional support is just as important as the physical skills. Additionally, incorporating faith and positive affirmations played a subtle but vital role in boosting his mindset. We often reminded each other that "Jesus loves you," a message that comforted him during moments of frustration or doubt. This spiritual encouragement gave him resilience to keep pushing forward. For any parent with a young child starting sports, I recommend focusing not only on the technical skills but also on creating a positive, supportive environment. Celebrate the effort rather than just the results. Remember that growth happens steadily with patience, and small improvements can lead to great success. Ultimately, this journey has taught me that the most valuable outcome is not just winning games but nurturing confidence, persistence, and a strong bond with your child.
