May these memories last a lifetime.
First thing in the morning, we went to our local park to get in our second father and son workout session in.
We did together burpees, jumping jacks, sprints, and squats. It was hard, but Abide pushed through. We kept saying, “This might be tough, but I am tougher.” There are so many life lessons that I have learned through working out, and it’s so special to do it with my son.
I’m so proud of my boy. He’s never given up. He is so strong and courageous. These are some of the most important and special times as father and son, to do this together and to learn those things that no classroom could ever teach, but only a father.
It is the honor and privilege of my life to raise, teach, and help my son become the man who God has called him to be. God has created him to be.
Thank You, Jesus, for these days. I will never forget them, and I hope he doesn’t either.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from. - Proverbs 22:6
Working out with my child has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Like the author mentions, pushing through tough exercises like burpees and sprints together creates not just physical strength but also mental resilience. It’s amazing how a simple morning session at the park can turn into a profound life lesson. My own experience confirms that when children see their parents facing challenges alongside them, it builds their confidence and show them that tough moments are opportunities for growth. Using mantras like “This might be tough, but I am tougher” reinforces a positive mindset that children carry into adulthood. These moments also open doors for heartfelt conversations about patience, discipline, and faith—values that no classroom can fully teach. Incorporating spiritual elements, such as the biblical quote from Proverbs 22:6, reminds us that guidance rooted in faith adds deeper meaning to parenting and personal development. Showing children they can do hard things builds their courage and nurtures a never-give-up attitude. It teaches them to celebrate progress over perfection, to embrace discomfort as a sign of growth, and most importantly, creates lasting memories that strengthen the father-son relationship. If you’re a parent wondering how to bond while teaching life lessons, regular workout sessions can be a simple yet powerful way to connect on multiple levels—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
