What it took and What it takes.
What it took..
It took breaking down to finally rebuild.
It took nights of tears, days of silence, and moments when I didn’t recognize myself.
It took losing people, places, and versions of me that were never meant to stay.
It took surrender— the kind that brings you to your knees.
It took admitting I needed help, even when pride said I didn’t.
It took forgiving myself for everything I thought made me unworthy.
It took faith, even when I couldn’t see the light.
And what it takes now..
It takes showing up for myself daily.
It takes setting boundaries to protect my peace.
It takes saying no to what broke me, and yes to what heals me.
It takes prayer, patience, and progress, not perfection.
It takes surrounding myself with truth, love, and people who remind me of who I am.
It takes remembering recovery isn’t a destination-it’s a decision that I make every single day.
And every day I make it.
Not because it’s easy—-
But because I am finally worth it.
For the last 11 1/2 years, I have taken one day at a time.
Recovery is a multifaceted process that encompasses more than just abstaining from harmful habits. It involves a conscious decision to cultivate a life of wellness and authenticity. For many, this journey reveals the need for emotional resilience and the importance of supportive relationships. The path to healing can be daunting, often requiring individuals to confront their past traumas and accept their vulnerabilities. Setting boundaries is crucial to preserving mental health and establishing a sense of peace. Each day offers a new opportunity for growth, allowing individuals to redefine their identity and reclaim their worth. Engaging in communities focused on sober living can provide essential support and solidarity. Daily practices, such as mindfulness, prayer, and reflection, are vital components of sustaining recovery. Remember, healing isn't linear; it’s a series of ups and downs that ultimately lead to a stronger, more authentic self. Embrace the journey and remind yourself that every step taken is a testament to your resilience.
