Having celebrated my son's first birthday recently, I wanted to do something truly special and unique. We decided on a golf-themed party, and what better way to tie it all together than with a custom Little Tikes car golf cart makeover? It was an incredibly rewarding DIY process, and I'm so excited to share how you can do it too! Getting Started: What You'll Need for Your Golf Cart Makeover Before diving in, gathering all your supplies makes the process much smoother. For our Little Tikes golf cart transformation, I recommend having: Your Little Tikes car (ours was a Cozy Coupe) Spray paint (primer, main color, and top coat/sealant – ensure it's plastic-friendly) Sandpaper (fine-grit) Screwdrivers or wrenches for disassembly Painter's tape and plastic sheeting Gloves and a mask for painting Vinyl for custom decals (if using a Cricut machine) Reflectors or small LED lights (for that authentic golf cart look) Optional: a miniature steering wheel cover, a small flag, or other decorative elements. Step-by-Step: My Little Tikes Golf Cart DIY Journey Disassemble with Care: This is your first crucial step. I began by carefully taking apart the Little Tikes car. Remove all wheels, the roof, doors, and any other detachable parts. Keep all screws and small pieces organized in a container – trust me, you don't want to lose them when it's time to reassemble! Clean and Prep for Paint: Once disassembled, thoroughly clean all plastic pieces. I used soap and water to remove any dirt or grime. After drying, a light sanding with fine-grit sandpaper helps the paint adhere better. This step is essential for a smooth, professional-looking finish. Wipe away any dust after sanding. Spray Paint the Body and Doors: Now for the fun part! Lay out your plastic pieces on a protected surface in a well-ventilated area. Apply a thin, even coat of plastic-friendly primer first. Once dry, proceed with your chosen spray paint color. I focused on getting even coverage on the main "Body" and the "Doors." Remember to apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick one to avoid drips and ensure a durable finish. Let each coat dry completely between applications. Custom Details with a Cricut Sign: To truly make it a golf cart, I added custom decals. Using my Cricut machine, I designed a personalized "Custom Cricut Sign" with my son's name and a golf theme. You can create pinstripes, numbers, or even a small golf club logo from vinyl. Carefully apply these decals once the paint is fully cured. This step really brought the Little Tikes car to life as a mini golf cart! Adding Authentic Reflectors: To complete the golf cart look, I attached small plastic "Reflectors" to the front and back, mimicking a real golf cart's safety features. You can find these at hardware stores or online. Simple adhesive or small screws (if the plastic is thick enough and won't compromise structure) work best. Reassemble Your Masterpiece: Once all paint is dry and decals are applied, it's time to "Reassemble" everything. Carefully put all the pieces back together, ensuring all screws are tightened and the structure is stable and safe for play. This Little Tikes golf cart makeover was a huge hit at the party and made for the most adorable photo opportunities. It's a project that brings so much joy and adds a truly personal touch to any celebration!
