HOW OFTEN SHOULD I EXFOLIATE & WHAT IS THE BENEFIT?
The answer depends on your skin type. For dry skin, it’s advisable to exfoliate 1-2x per week, combination skin is 2-3x per week and oil skin is 3-7x per week. It also depends on the type of product you are using.
I am a dry skin girlie and I exfoliate everyday with this Dermalogica daily exfoliant because it’s very gentle on the skin. I have seen noticeable difference in my skin’s texture and pores when I use this religiously. I have been using it for about 5 years now with no adverse reactions.
Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. By so doing, you get to detoxify your skin and boost blood circulation, which in turn, reveals a brighter, healthier looking skin.
BENEFITS INCLUDE:
Unclogging pores/ Reduces Acne: Exfoliating regularly will remove any dirt or debris clogging your pores, thereby allowing your pores to gradually tighten your pores and prevent breakouts.
Improving skin texture: Exfoliating regularly will remove dead surfaces that clogs the skin. This will reveal a smoother skin texture.
Stimulating collagen production. As we age, we loose skin elasticity, which is the protein that makes our skin look younger and youthful. Exfoliating regularly helps new skin cells regenerate and grow, allowing a more beautiful and youthful looking skin.

In my personal skincare journey, I’ve found that choosing the right exfoliation routine is crucial for maintaining healthy skin without causing irritation. For dry skin like mine, exfoliating 1-2 times per week is usually recommended to avoid over-stripping natural oils, but I have had great success using a gentle daily exfoliant such as Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant. Its powder formula activates with water and feels very mild, which helps me maintain smooth skin texture and reduce clogged pores over time. For those with combination skin, exfoliating 2-3 times a week strikes a good balance to address oily zones without drying out the cheeks. Oily skin types may benefit from more frequent exfoliation—up to daily—but it’s important to select products with ingredients that regulate sebum production while being non-abrasive. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin buildup, which not only detoxifies but also stimulates blood flow beneath the surface. This encourages skin cell renewal and collagen production, leading to firmer, more youthful skin. Collagen is essential as we age because it provides elasticity and minimizes the appearance of fine lines. Many professional-grade exfoliants, like those from Dermalogica, use gentle acids or enzyme-based formulations rather than harsh scrubs. These advanced products can deliver noticeable improvements in skin tone, texture, and pore size without adverse reactions when used consistently. Remember to always follow exfoliation with proper hydration and sun protection, as removing dead skin increases skin sensitivity. Including exfoliation in your routine can be transformative but listen to your skin’s needs to adjust frequency accordingly. Overall, exfoliation is a key step towards brighter, clearer, and healthier skin when done right.

I learned the hard way that over-exfoliating will mess your skin up fast 😠now I only do it like twice a week max
