FOUNDATION VS. SKIN TINTS.
Tinted moisturizers, skin tints and CC creams are having a moment right now. This doesn't mean foundations are obsolete, but they are everyday wearables that makeup brands have made available through different means.
The hotter the weather, the lighter you want to go with your makeup products and application. Right before summer, I made that conscious effort to incorporate more tinted moisturizers into my makeup routine while building them into full makeup looks.
Smash Box Healthy Glow All-In-One Tinted Moisturizer has SPF 25 and Hyaluronic Acid infused which makes it a great combination. I use shade Dark Neutral. The all in one SPF, primer infused tinted moisturizer is lightweight and gives my skin a healthy dewy finish. The Hyaluronic Acid keeps my skin hydrated and fresh all day. I always had my friend ask what I applied on my face to make it look glowy and the best part is that all skin types can use it.
CoverFX Luminous Tinted Moisturizer: The shade match I have with this one is phenomenal. Although it's not infused with SPF, I would choose this over the Smash Box one. I use shade "Deep Fonce" which gives me a matte but luminous finish. It gives me an even skin tone and looks exactly like my skin without being too much.
The Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer is pure perfection. I just got it in the mail while writing this blog post, and I immediately tried it out and its perfect. I have shade "Rich 2" and let's just say it melts into the skin.
I enjoy using foundation for full glam looks, like weddings, events etc because I want a full coverage. However, there are still some events that I can create a full makeup look using my skin tints.

When deciding between foundation and skin tints, I’ve found that the choice often revolves around the look and feel you want to achieve as well as the event you’re attending. For daily wear, especially in warmer months, skin tints and tinted moisturizers provide a natural, breathable finish that lets your skin shine through while offering hydration and light coverage. For example, tinted moisturizers with SPF protection not only even out your skin tone but also defend against sun damage, which is crucial during summer. I personally adore the versatility of CoverFX Luminous Tinted Moisturizer for its ability to deliver a matte yet glowing finish that looks remarkably like my natural skin—making it ideal for those who want to appear polished without heavy makeup. It’s perfect for casual outings or workdays when you want to maintain a fresh complexion without the heaviness of foundation. On the other hand, for full glam occasions such as weddings or evening events, I still prefer foundation due to its buildable coverage that can create a flawless base for contouring and highlighting. Foundations tend to offer better wear time and can be layered to achieve the desired level of coverage without feeling cakey when applied correctly. An interesting tip I’ve picked up is to layer skin tints or tinted moisturizers with a light dusting of setting powder to enhance longevity and reduce shine if you’re prone to an oily complexion. Also, mixing a drop of your favorite tinted moisturizer with foundation can lighten the coverage and add hydration during dry seasons. In summary, having both options—skin tints for a lightweight, glowy everyday look and foundation for events requiring a more polished appearance—lets you tailor your makeup routine to your skin’s needs and the occasion. Incorporating hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, as seen in some tinted moisturizers, not only enhances comfort but also supports skin health throughout the day.
