Day 80 of my 90 Day Daniel Fast

Hey everyone! Building on my journey, I wanted to share some 'real talk' about the Daniel Fast, especially since so many of you have questions about getting started or navigating different durations. When I embarked on my 90-day journey, it felt monumental, but the principles are the same whether you're doing a 5-day, 21-day, or even longer fast. Many people start with a shorter fast, like the popular 5-day Daniel Fast, which is a fantastic way to dip your toes in. It's enough time to reset your palate and reconnect spiritually without feeling too overwhelmed. The 21-day Daniel Fast, however, is what most people recognize, mirroring Daniel's own commitment. It really allows you to dig deeper into spiritual discipline and healthy eating habits. Regardless of the length, 'Jesus is King' throughout the process, guiding you every step of the way. One of the most common questions I get asked is, 'Is avocado allowed on Daniel Fast?' And the answer is a resounding YES! Avocado is a wonderful, healthy fat that's completely compliant. It’s a lifesaver for adding creaminess to smoothies or salads. Generally speaking, the Daniel Fast focuses on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and water. Think plant-based, unprocessed foods. Avoid meat, dairy, sugar, leavened bread, and processed foods. I've found so many delicious alternatives, just like my lentil wrap discovery! It's all about getting creative. For those doing the 21-day fast, incorporating scripture is absolutely vital. I found focusing on passages about spiritual discipline, reliance on God, and seeking wisdom incredibly helpful. Daniel 1 (the origin of the fast!), Philippians 4:6-7 (peace that transcends understanding), Isaiah 58:6-7 (the true fast), and Matthew 6:33 (seeking first His kingdom) are fantastic starting points. Meditating on these daily truly nourishes your spirit as much as healthy food nourishes your body. Creating a '21-day Daniel Fast meal plan' might sound daunting, but it doesn't have to be. My tip? Keep it simple! Focus on whole foods. A typical day could look like: Breakfast: Oatmeal with berries and nuts, or a fruit smoothie with spinach and plant-based protein powder. Lunch: Large salad with a variety of greens, veggies, chickpeas, and a vinaigrette dressing. Dinner: Lentil soup (my favorite!), a veggie stir-fry with brown rice, or baked sweet potatoes with black beans. Snacks: Apples, oranges, carrots, celery, or a handful of almonds. Planning ahead and prepping ingredients make a huge difference. Remember, this journey is about both physical and spiritual nourishment, and with God, truly 'all things are possible'.
