After living in our house for only 6 years I can’t believe how much stuff we’ve acquired. I’ll give myself a little break because we did go from a family of 3 to a family of 5, navigate a pandemic, return to work, etc etc but now that we’re getting ready for the next phase of life it’s time to declutter this whole house. Top to bottom, let’s go 💃✌️ anyone want to join? #declutter #organize #cleantok #adhd #minimalist
Having gone through the journey of expanding my family and managing a busy household, I found that decluttering is not just about getting rid of stuff but about regaining control and peace of mind. One key realization was to stop reorganizing the same piles repeatedly—a note to self that kept me from wasting time and energy. Instead, I focused on setting small, achievable decluttering goals each day, which prevented overwhelm. Using methods like categorizing items into 'keep,' 'donate,' and 'discard' boxes helped me make clear decisions quickly. Involving family members, especially children, in the process made it a team effort and even taught valuable lessons about mindfulness and responsibility. I also found that maintaining a minimalist mindset and being intentional about new purchases helped prevent future clutter buildup. Navigating this process during major life transitions, including the pandemic and changes in work routines, added layers of complexity. What truly helped was embracing flexibility and self-compassion, understanding that progress is not always linear. For others tackling similar challenges, I recommend integrating decluttering into daily habits, using social media groups like #cleantok and #minimalist for motivation, and remembering that a less cluttered space can lead to a less cluttered mind.
