Spiritual Fasting Essentials

I kept feeling like God was pulling me to fast not just from food but multiple things.

I fasted from food, social media, and the gym for 60 hours. Here’s how I did it!

1. I deleted all of my social media, didn’t prep or grocery shop, and planned out intentional time to spend with Jesus

2. Prayed to God to guide me and really show me focal points that he wants me to purge and surrender

3. Didn’t talk to many people during this time. God was my main and only priority during this time. No outside distractions ( I communicated with accountability partners only)

4. Noted and journaled everything. Planned out the implementation of making Jesus my focal point even when I’m eating, gyming, and active on socials

Such a beautiful experience, once I hit hour 30 I really started to feel a break through. Plan to fast once a month and add a day each month.

Anybody want to join me in fasting, February? 3 days no food, no socials, no gym(or whatever you feel takes time from God)

... Read moreBuilding on my recent 60-hour spiritual fast, I feel truly called to share more about this incredible journey and why it's become such a vital part of my life. When I first felt God pulling me to fast, I wasn't just looking to abstain from food; I was yearning for something deeper, a pure, undivided focus on Him. Many of you might be wondering, 'Why fast spiritually?' or 'What are the real benefits?' Let me tell you, it's about so much more than just going without. It's about intentionally creating space for God to move in your life, to hear His voice more clearly, and to grow in spiritual maturity. One of the biggest 'aha!' moments for me was realizing that spiritual fasting isn't a one-size-fits-all practice. While my fast involved abstaining from food, social media, and the gym, there are so many 'types of Christian fasting' you can explore. In the Bible, we see various examples, like the 'normal fast' (typically water-only for a set period), or a 'partial fast,' like the Daniel fast, where specific foods are limited. There are even 'absolute fasts,' though these are very short and require extreme caution. The beauty is, you can tailor it to what God is calling you to surrender. For some, it might be a 'three-day spiritual fast' from all distractions, for others, it could be giving up entertainment, shopping, or even complaining for a set time. The common thread is always intentionality and focusing on God. The 'spiritual benefits of fasting' are truly profound. Beyond the feeling of breakthrough I mentioned earlier, I experienced a heightened sense of God's presence and a clarity in prayer that I hadn't felt in a long time. It helped me cultivate greater self-control, humbling myself before God and recognizing my complete dependence on Him. I found that moments I would usually fill with mindless scrolling or gym routines became precious times for prayer and reflection. My 'devotional book' and 'Bible' became my constant companions, especially reading passages like 'Romans 6:11' which speaks to dying to sin and living for God. It’s amazing how much more you can hear when you quiet the noise of the world. If you're considering embarking on your own spiritual fast, here's a little 'power of fasting guide' from my personal journey. First, and most importantly, setting intentions and rules is key. What are you seeking from God? What distractions are you willing to lay down to draw closer to Him? Write it down! Secondly, prepare yourself mentally and spiritually. It won't always be easy; there will be moments of temptation or discomfort. But remember, the discipline is part of the blessing. I used my lunch breaks for journaling and talking to God, replacing old habits with new, spiritual ones. Instead of scrolling, I’d put on worship music and just be present. Having an accountability partner (as I did) can also make a huge difference, offering encouragement when you need it most. And finally, when it's time to break your fast, do so gently and prayerfully, reflecting on what God has revealed to you. This isn't just about showing God what you can give up; it's about opening yourself up to what He wants to give you. I hope this encourages you to explore your own spiritual fasting journey!
