BIG ISLAND FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS 🌋🥥

6/24 Edited to

... Read moreTraveling to the Big Island of Hawaii is not just about breathtaking volcanoes and stunning beaches, but also about indulging in amazing local food that leaves a lasting impression. I had the chance to try numerous dishes and markets that truly showcased the island’s rich culinary scene. One highlight for me was the garlic butter shrimp from Ippy's Hawaiian BBQ. This hidden gem far surpassed other shrimp trucks I’ve tried, packed with deep flavor and complemented perfectly by kalua pig, creamy coleslaw, and crispy fries. It's a meal you won't forget and definitely a must-try for anyone visiting the island. If you're a fan of fresh fruits, the Hilo Farmer's Market blew me away, especially with the ripe papayas. The vendors are incredibly helpful and pick the most luscious, ready-to-eat fruits if you ask. This fresh fruit experience was a delightful surprise, especially coming from a place like Singapore which already offers tropical fruits. For dessert lovers, the Kula Shaved Ice was unforgettable. The combination of lilikoi and soursop topped with coconut cream was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and had a unique texture that made every bite refreshing and delicious. If mochi is on your list, don’t miss Two Ladies Kitchen, where you get soft, chewy, and flavorful mochi with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Just call ahead to avoid long waits, which shows how popular this spot really is. Dining at The Rim Restaurant within Volcanoes National Park added a scenic dining experience to my travel. Despite the typically average food expectations at national parks, this meal was a standout — tasty and paired with a stunning view of the Kilauea Volcano, making it a unique dining highlight. Also, Hico Coffee’s lilikoi cheesecake matcha was a perfect blend of flavors for coffee and dessert enthusiasts. Overall, exploring the Big Island through its food is an adventure itself. Each bite tells a story of the island’s culture, fresh produce, and passionate chefs. For anyone planning a trip here or looking to try Hawaiian food, these spots and dishes offer a genuine taste of Big Island’s vibrant food scene.
