DIY KISSES SHIRT

Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share how I made this super special DIY Kisses Shirt that my boyfriend absolutely loves. It’s such a thoughtful and personalized gift, perfect for anniversaries, birthdays, or just because! If you've been wondering how to create one of these viral shirts, I learned a lot along the way and want to share my step-by-step guide to make sure yours turns out perfectly and lasts. First things first, let's talk about materials. You don't need much, but the right paint is crucial for a lasting design. I used Craft Smart acrylic paint because it has a great color range, but the secret ingredient for making it permanent and washable is FolkArt Textile Medium. You'll want to mix your acrylic paint with the textile medium at a ratio of 1 part acrylic paint to 2 parts textile medium. This ensures your beautiful kisses won't wash out after the first cycle. Of course, have some small cups for mixing your colors, and don't forget painter's tape or clear tape to define your kissing area, and some paper or cardboard. Now, for the shirt itself! When I was making this for my significant other, I really thought about what he’d actually wear. I opted for an oversized fit from H&M in an off-white color, which I knew he'd love. Think about the fit and color that your recipient would genuinely prefer. Once you have your shirt, the first step is to tape off the area you want to be filled with kisses. This creates a neat border and keeps your design contained. Crucially, make sure to put paper or cardboard underneath the area you'll be painting to avoid the paint seeping through to the back of the shirt. Trust me, this small step saves a lot of headaches! Next, the fun part – mixing your colors! I found it really added a nice touch to choose paint colors that were similar to actual lipsticks I wear. You can mix different shades of red and pink to get new, unique hues. Once your paints are mixed with the textile medium, it’s time to start kissing! Apply the mixed paint directly to your lips (carefully, as paint isn't meant for consumption, so do this at your own risk!) and press them onto the taped-off area of the shirt. You can experiment with different pressures and angles to create a varied look. I even added my name, 'Julz', in the corner, which makes it even more personal. After you're happy with the amount of kisses, gently peel off the tape to reveal your crisp design. The absolute most important step to ensure your kiss shirt is permanent and washable is ironing. If you do not iron the shirt afterward, all your hard work will NOT stay! Turn the shirt inside out or place a thin cloth over the design, then iron for 5 minutes on a medium-high heat setting. This heat sets the paint and textile medium, making it truly last. And voilà, you have a beautiful, permanent custom shirt! Lastly, if you happen to get some spots of paint on the shirt by accident outside your design, don't panic! I figured this out the hard way. You can take some Spray 'n Wash on a paper towel and gently dab it out. Then, dab with water and let it dry. It usually works like a charm.
