potty training toddlers with bubbles 🫧

having a hard time potty training your toddler? try this hack i found on TikTok!!!

🫧 blowing bubbles encourages belly breathing

• when kids blow bubbles, they naturally take deep breaths and engage their diaphragm. this relaxes the pelvic floor muscles and abdominal muscles, which are key for pooping and peeing. a relaxed body makes it easier for everything to “move”

🫧 it takes their mind off the pressure

• toddlers can feel overwhelmed or anxious about using the potty. focusing on bubbles helps shift their attention and reduce potty performance anxiety. this mental distraction can help their body relax and let go

🫧 it turns sitting time into fun time

• potty training often means just waiting and toddlers aren’t fans of that. blowing bubbles gives them something to do that keeps them calm and happy while they sit. more sitting = more chances to go!

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard the buzz about using bubbles for potty training, and trust me, it's a game-changer! But sometimes, knowing what to do isn't quite enough; you need the *how*. After trying this hack myself, I've picked up a few extra tips to make it even more effective and less stressful for everyone involved. First off, let's talk setup. When your little one is on the potty, gently introduce the bubble wand. I found having a few different bubble wands on hand – like the ones shaped like hearts or stars (just like those cute red and orange ones I've seen!) – adds an extra layer of fun and novelty. This keeps them engaged. Don't just hand them the wand; demonstrate how to blow. Make it a silly game! This encourages them to take those deep, belly breaths that are so crucial for relaxing their pelvic floor muscles. Remember, the goal is to make their body relax so everything can 'move' naturally. I learned that timing is everything. I usually offer the bubbles right when they sit down. It immediately shifts their focus from any anxiety they might feel about 'performing' to the simple joy of bubbles. If they're struggling to sit still, the bubbles are a fantastic distraction. It turns what could be a boring waiting game into an entertaining activity, increasing their chances of staying put long enough to go. Now, for some practicalities. What if they get too excited and just want to play with the bubbles instead of focusing on the potty? I found it helpful to manage the bubble production. Sometimes I would blow the bubbles for them, asking them to "pop" them while they were sitting. Other times, I'd give them the wand for a short burst, then take it back, saying, "Okay, let's try some more bubbles in a minute!" This helps them understand it's part of the potty routine, not just free play. Another tip: consistency is key. Make bubbles a standard part of your potty routine, especially when they're first learning. It helps build a positive association with the potty. And don't forget the praise! Even if they just sit and blow bubbles without going, acknowledge their effort and how well they're blowing. "Wow, look at those big bubbles!" can go a long way. What if your toddler isn't a fan of bubbles? Don't give up! While bubbles work wonders for many, every child is different. You could try other engaging activities: reading a special 'potty book,' singing songs, or even a small, quiet toy they only get to play with on the potty. The core idea is to reduce pressure and make sitting on the potty a positive, relaxed experience. Ultimately, this bubble hack isn't just about blowing bubbles; it's about creating a calm, fun, and pressure-free environment for your little one to learn this big new skill. It truly makes a difference in easing those potty training struggles, turning tears into giggles, and helping those little muscles do their job without stress. Give it a try, experiment a little, and watch the magic happen!
