explaining santa to my toddler.

my husband and i have both came to the agreement of teaching our children, that santa isn’t a real life being. but more so, a character in a story who is part of a tradition. and no, she won’t ruin it for other kids lol. she’ll learn that different families celebrate differently. and that we focus on Jesus and enjoy santa as part of the fun.

so she’ll know: daddy and mommy give gifts and not santa.

we give gifts because God gave to us. Christmas is about Jesus. santa is a fun part of Christmas that reminds us to give and be joyful.

we celebrate Jesus, and we practice generosity.

short and simple! while still keeping this Christmas season fun and about Jesus! ✨

... Read moreExplaining Santa to a toddler can be a delicate balance, especially for families who want to keep Christmas centered on Jesus while still honoring festive traditions. Many parents choose to present Santa not as a literal figure, but as a delightful character from holiday stories that encourage kindness and generosity. This approach helps children understand that the spirit of Christmas is about love, giving, and joy. It's natural for toddlers to be curious about Santa Claus since he's a common figure in media and culture during the holiday season. Parents can embrace this curiosity by explaining that Santa is part of a fun story and tradition that many families enjoy. However, they also emphasize that the real reason for the season is celebrating Jesus and the gifts God has given to us. Instead of focusing on Santa as the gift-giver, parents explain that mommy and daddy lovingly give gifts to their children, inspired by God's gift to humanity. This method helps toddlers grasp important values beyond the magical tales. It encourages generosity and gratitude instead of just receiving presents. It also prepares children to respect how different families celebrate Christmas in various meaningful ways without feeling pressured to believe in Santa the way other children might. Maintaining honesty while nurturing the magic of Christmas can feel challenging, but framing Santa as part of a joyful story supports both integrity and wonder. Parents can share that Santa reminds us to be joyful and giving during the holidays, which aligns with Christian teachings about love and kindness. By explaining these ideas simply and warmly, families can enjoy a Christmas season full of fun, traditions, and spiritual significance, helping toddlers appreciate the deeper message of the holiday alongside the excitement of festive celebrations.
