So now I need to go watch sleepless in Seattle! This book was super cute and the chemistry between Aiden and Lucie on the phone and then on the radio show was undeniable. Even the listeners knew it lol.
I loved Maya, Lucie’s daughter and the family dynamic that they had.
Lots of banter and humor in this book made it enjoyable! Aiden was seriously so thoughtful towards Lucie. I’m glad that he learned how to love again.
The story could have used a bit more out of the radio show time since it became a bit boring. Also, there wasn’t much time involved with Lucie and Maya her daughter which I would have loved to see more of. Aiden spent no time with Maya except on the phone.
Aiden also annoyed me at the end saying he isn’t good for her and can’t be serious..blah blah blah lol.
... Read moreWhen I first picked up "FIRST-TIME CALLER" by B.K. Borison, I was immediately drawn to the promise of a classic "Sleepless in Seattle" type romance, but with a modern twist. And boy, did Aiden and Lucie deliver on that front! Their story, unfolding largely through phone calls and a radio show, was an absolute delight to dive into. It’s hard not to get swept away by the undeniable spark they share, even before they meet face-to-face.
The core of their connection, for me, was definitely forged on the airwaves. Lucie, a single mom, calls into a radio show, and Aiden, the host, is instantly captivated. What follows is a series of incredibly charming and witty exchanges that showcase their fantastic banter. I found myself grinning like crazy reading their back-and-forth; it felt so natural and genuinely funny. This is where their chemistry truly shines, making you root for them from the very beginning. The way Aiden listens to Lucie, truly hears her, was so endearing. It’s rare to find male leads who are so genuinely thoughtful, and Aiden certainly starts off that way, showing a deep understanding and care for Lucie and her daughter, Maya.
However, as a reader, I did find myself wishing for more time spent on the actual radio show segments. The concept itself is so unique and powerful for building anticipation, and I felt like there was untapped potential there to really lean into the magic of anonymous connection. While their phone calls were great, the radio show aspect could have been a more central, recurring stage for their developing bond.
Lucie’s life as a single mom also added a layer of realism and warmth to the story. Her relationship with Maya was incredibly sweet, and I appreciated the depiction of a strong, independent woman balancing love and motherhood. My only critique here was that I would have loved to see Aiden interact more directly with Maya, especially given his thoughtful nature. It felt like a missed opportunity to fully integrate him into Lucie's family dynamic earlier on, beyond just phone calls.
Now, let's talk about Aiden's arc. He truly was thoughtful and attentive for most of the book, which made his sudden hesitation at the end a bit frustrating for me. The whole "I'm not good for her, I can't be serious" trope felt a little out of character given how deeply devoted he seemed. It prolonged the resolution unnecessarily, and I found myself internally screaming, "Just communicate, Aiden!" Despite this minor annoyance, his journey to learning how to love again, and truly commit, was heartwarming in its own right.
Overall, "FIRST-TIME CALLER" offered a wonderfully engaging romance with plenty of fun banter, spicy scenes, and a dual POV that really let you get inside both Aiden and Lucie's heads. It definitely delivered on the "Sleepless in Seattle" vibes I was hoping for, blending that classic rom-com charm with contemporary issues. My 3.5-star rating reflects just how much I enjoyed their unique connection, even with a few minor wishes for more depth in certain areas. If you're looking for a heartwarming, witty read with characters you can truly root for, especially a charming single mom and a thoughtful radio host, you absolutely have to pick up B.K. Borison's "FIRST-TIME CALLER." It’s a book that stays with you, making you ponder the power of connection in unexpected places.
You know I purchased the Kindle paperwhite. I had no idea that it was only in black-and-white. I thought I was gonna have it in color but oh well I still have it. I'll still use it but yeah I guess that was the whole point right that's why they call it a paper white. Lol
Totally agree the color soft is expensive and I love the features of the kindle paperwhite.
