Laredo Pretty Drapes
Impressive before and after installation of pretty Drapes
Hey everyone! So, when I first decided to tackle 'draping a room,' I honestly felt a bit overwhelmed. It's more than just hanging fabric; it's about transforming the entire feel of your space! After my recent project, which you saw the incredible before-and-after of, I wanted to share some personal insights that totally changed my approach and helped me achieve that 'wow' factor. First off, think about why you're draping. Is it for privacy, blocking out sunlight, adding coziness, or just pure aesthetics? For my living room, I really wanted to soften the edges and add a touch of elegance, plus get some much-needed privacy from the street. This helped me decide on a heavier, lined fabric rather than sheer curtains. Choosing the right length and width is crucial. A common mistake I almost made was buying drapes that were too short or not wide enough to properly cover the window when closed. For a truly luxurious look, I learned that curtains should either 'kiss' the floor (just touching), 'break' the floor (a slight puddle), or 'puddle' significantly for a dramatic effect. I went for the 'break the floor' look – it’s forgiving and adds a soft touch without being too messy. And always remember to measure your window width and multiply it by 1.5 to 2.5 times for fullness! This ensures they look rich and not stretched thin. Installation might seem daunting, but it's totally manageable. A little tip I picked up: hang your curtain rod wider than your window frame, and significantly higher. This makes your windows appear larger and your ceilings taller, creating an airy, grander feel. I placed my rod about 6-12 inches above the window frame and extended it 8-12 inches on each side. It made a huge difference! Don't forget the hardware! The rod and finials are part of the decor. I chose a brushed brass rod to complement my room's metallic accents, and it tied everything together beautifully. Finally, think about layering. For my bedroom, I actually layered sheer curtains under heavier drapes. This gives me flexibility – I can have natural light filtering in during the day with privacy, and then pull the blackout drapes at night for complete darkness. It’s a game-changer for sleep! Draping a room is such a rewarding project. It truly personalizes your home and can completely alter the mood and ambiance. Don't be afraid to experiment with textures and colors that speak to you. Happy decorating!
