WAS MY RED HAIR A SLAY?

... Read moreMy hair journey has been a wild ride, and honestly, it all started with that vibrant red! There’s something so powerful about a bold red hair transformation. It felt like a statement, a whole new me. But as you know, once you start experimenting with hair color, it’s hard to stop! One of my earliest, and perhaps most memorable, transformations was when I decided to try box-dyeing my hair blonde at just 13 years old. Oh, the bravery of youth! The box promised a beautiful light blonde, but anyone who’s attempted a drastic DIY change knows it's rarely that simple. It definitely "just needed toner" to get rid of some of those unexpected yellow tones, a lesson I learned quickly about achieving the perfect shade. Then came the purple phase, and I can say now, looking back, I'm definitely cringing at some of those photos! It’s funny how a color can seem like a great idea at the time, only to be a fleeting trend you later question. That dark purple was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and while it was fun for a bit, it eventually led to another challenge: purple/red buildup. If you’ve ever had vibrant colors in your hair, you know how stubborn they can be to remove or cover. That’s why I eventually dyed my hair brown – a strategic move to cover that pesky buildup and give my hair a much-needed break. After a while, the itch to go lighter returned, and it was back to blonde baby! This time, I was a bit wiser about the process and what it takes to transition safely. It's truly a process of trial and error, learning what works for your hair type and what your hair can handle. Each color change felt like a fresh start, a way to express a different part of myself. Throughout all these changes, I've also had moments where I embraced my natural texture and color. Sometimes, the most natural moments are the most beautiful. It's a journey of self-discovery, not just hair color. If you're considering your own red hair transformation or any drastic color change, here are a few tips from my personal experience: Do Your Research: Before diving in, especially with reds or going from dark to light, understand the process. Watch tutorials, read reviews, and know what products you’ll need for maintenance. Consider Your Budget: Professional colorists are worth it for big changes, but if you're doing it yourself, invest in good quality dyes, toners, and aftercare products. Patience is Key: Hair transformations rarely happen in one go, especially if you’re making a big jump in color. It might take several steps to get to your desired shade, especially when dealing with prior color buildup. Stock Up on Aftercare: Color-safe shampoos, conditioners, and masks are non-negotiable. They’ll help maintain your color and keep your hair healthy through all the changes. Don't Be Afraid to Experiment (But Be Realistic!): Hair grows, and color can be changed. It's okay to try something new, even if it ends up being a learning experience (like my purple phase!). Just remember to prioritize hair health above all else. Every strand tells a story, and yours is waiting to be dyed!
