Affordable meals that make ALOT of food

Part 1.

Hamburger steak over rice (or instant mashed potatoes) with gravy, roasted potato (or any vegetable) and canned black eyed peas and green beans.

The gravy is literally just the leftover grease and seasoning from the hamburger steak with flour and then either milk or chicken broth or beef broth. Super affordable and versatile.

Adding green beans to your canned beans easily helps stretch the side to have more! You can use white beans, pinto beans, Lima beans, black eyed pease, just add a can or two of green beans and you’ve stretched that side to last longer or feed more mouths.

Also I used ground venison for these particular patties and it was delish 🦌☺️

I’ve found hamburger steak to be a versatile base that pairs perfectly with simple sides like rice or instant mashed potatoes. The gravy made from leftover pan drippings mixed with flour and broth or milk adds a rich taste without extra cost. It’s a great way to use every bit of flavor from the meat. Adding canned green beans to beans such as black eyed peas or pinto beans really stretches the portion size and boosts the nutritional value. This method allows you to serve more people with what you already have in your pantry. It’s also easy to swap the vegetables for whatever is on sale or in season, making your dinner adaptable and budget-conscious. I personally love using ground venison for the patties—it adds a unique, lean flavor that feels special but still keeps costs down, especially if you have access to game meat. For those who don’t, ground beef or turkey works just as well. To spice up these simple dinners, don’t forget to experiment with seasoning blends or a splash of hot sauce to keep meals exciting night after night. Preparing large batches also means you can enjoy leftovers or repurpose the components into new dishes, like burritos or casseroles. Overall, affordable meals that make a lot of food don’t have to be boring or bland. With a few tricks such as mixing beans with green beans and wisely using gravy made from cooking juices, you get rich flavors and stretched ingredients perfect for family dinners or meal prepping on a budget.
