Junbi Tales: The Everything Trail
The Everything Trail is another my favorite tale.
When I first read it, I thought it was a book to take children on a simple hike, and I started walking from three children into the redwood forest, who were very good at drawing, and really reflected the beauty of the forest on the page.
The most amazing thing is the view of each page of the tree, the tree that we look at in the early part is almost inseparable, and when we come to the story and flip each page, we really feel that it is different.
Gimmick is an animal hidden in each face of a tree that a child walks to meet.
And he began to find that the book was not telling wild stories.
The book is telling a "connection" story.
Trees linked to birds
Birds linked to insects
Insects linked to flowers
Flowers are linked to another animal.
Everything in the forest is connecting in one long path.
Until it's called The Everything Trail.
The interesting thing is,
This is a thinking skill that young children are not yet fully developed.
Jean Piaget explains that young children often see the world as a separate unit.
A tree is a tree. A bird is a bird. A flower is a flower.
Children also rarely see a "system" that connects things to each other.
But this book invites children to notice that nothing alone affects each other.
Developmentally.
This is the foundation of what is called Systems Thinking.
Or the ability to see the relationship of things, which is an important basis of studying science.
Solving problems and understanding the complex world of the future.
A child who sees the connection of things.
I will not only remember that this is a tree, "but will begin to ask:
"What else does this tree have to do with it?"
The author is also so thorough that
Trying to format the book, some pages had to rotate the book vertically to see the height of the redwood tree.
Before turning around horizontally to see the widest forest, this is not just a gimmick of a book.
But it's really changing the child's perspective, making the child's thinking more flexible.
From looking at the little things in front of you to looking at the whole big picture.
I searched until I found a little anecdote. Meg Fleming, the author, once said,
She wanted the hike to be like "balancing."
Let the child reconnect with nature.
Her tales are as powerful as she really is.
The Everything Trail is a story that has been read in the first round, is fascinated by the images of the trees, and is silent because of the ordinary story line.
But there's a high chance of making a child walk outside the house.
And then began to observe the world more.
