Cib, Oxlahun, Kan

As the gears in the cosmic calendar turn and churn the fabric of time and space, we move into the Day sign Cib. As the universe’s mechanism causes our Sun 🌞 to rise we transition into the 13th day (Oxlahun) of this Kan/K'at Trecena (13 day cycle).

In Maya Cosmology, Cib in Yucatec or Ajmaq in K'iche' is a sacred energy that deepens our connection to ancestral wisdom and the essence of human existence. It bridges the past and present, embodying our link to Earth’s evolution and the knowledge passed down through generations.

Cib celebrates consciousness, free will, love, and the dual nature of life—honoring both wisdom and human frailty. Represented by the vulture and owl, Cib speaks to transformation and insight. It symbolizes our bond with Earth, aligned with yellow and the South signifying ripeness.

On Cib days, the Maya seek forgiveness from ancestors, taking time to reflect on life's balance. Forgiveness, central to Cib, is a transformative process of empathy and release, freeing us from resentment. Embracing true forgiveness, especially toward oneself, allows us to live with a lightness that aligns with Cib’s wisdom.

Oxlahun/ Oxlajuj

The Number Thirteen

In the Tzolk'in calendar 13 symbolizes a gateway to unlock dormant psychic and spiritual powers, allowing attunement to other dimensions and future patterns. Linked to the Water Serpent God and the Underworld, it bridges the mundane and mystical.

Thirteen is reflected in the human body's major joints, which channel koyopa, or sacred life energy. It enhances divination accuracy and spiritual insights, offering deeper understanding through readings.

On thirteen days, the veil between worlds thins, making it ideal for meditation and cultivating psychic gifts. Thirteen represents the completion of life cycles, refining perception and intuition, and elevating actions undertaken on these days. Those born under thirteen often possess innate spiritual abilities, but unrecognized talents may bring challenges. It encourages embracing spiritual potential and perceiving beyond the visible.

Guardian of the 13th Day

Ometeotl, also called Omecinatl, is the Aztec deity of creation and the guiding force of the Thirteenth Day in the Trecena. Representing Oxlahun in Yucatec Maya and Oxlajuj in K’iche’ Maya, the energy of this day embodies the essence of completion and unity.

This sacred energy reflects the culmination of cycles, where endings seamlessly transition into new beginnings. It’s a time to reflect on the interconnected nature of creation and honor the balance that binds all things. Through Ometeotl's presence, we are reminded of the infinite potential that arises when completion meets renewal, when life springs forth from death.

The cosmic date is, 13 (Oxlahun), the day sign is Cib of this Kan Trecena, or in Gregorian terms, January 23rd 2025.

Again I ask, what would the OG Daykeepers advise today as the energies of the Kan trecena intertwines with the energies of the Cib Day sign and the number Oxlahun (13) tone?

Today, the energy of the Kan trecena merges with the influence of Oxlahun (13) Cib in Yucatec or Oxlajuj (13) Ajmaq in K’iche’, creating a uniquely transformative moment. Cib holds a deep connection to ancestral wisdom and the evolutionary journey of the spirit, offering guidance for uncovering hidden truths and patterns within familial and karmic lines. The number 13 amplifies this by sharpening intuition and expanding perception. Meanwhile, the Kan trecena provides a grounding force which promotes healing, nurturing, and liberation from both external and internal barriers.

This day invites deep introspection and action. It is an ideal time to address unresolved wounds passed down through generations, confront fears, and release yourself from cycles of control or limitation. The energies at play today not only support healing but also empower you to step into untapped potential, aligning with the wisdom and strength of your ancestors. If ever there was a day to initiate meaningful transformation and reclaim your sovereignty, this is it.

Reflection of the Day

Generational trauma is not limited to the pain and suffering endured by our ancestors; it also extends to how we perceive ourselves, the work we do, and the paths we follow. Many of our ancestors went into hiding to protect their spiritual practices, and this act of preservation shapes us today. Yet, some of the generational weight we carry manifests in choices that divert us from our true purpose. Like my father and his father before him, I worked in transportation, expanding into logistics for international imports—a path far removed from the occupations and wisdom of our ancestors. Looking back, I see my injury as a wake-up call from spirit, a jarring reminder that I was not walking the path I was meant to walk. This marked the beginning of my dark night of the soul, a period where I felt lost and purposeless, spiraling into depression.

The energies of the Kan trecena and Oxlahun (13) Cib reflect the healing and awakening I found when I reconnected with my ancestral roots. Just as Cib connects us to the wisdom of those who came before us and invites release from generational cycles, my journey led me back to the rituals and medicines of my people. Learning to honor the energies of the day through the teachings of the Daykeepers brought clarity and purpose into my life. Spirit pulled me out of the numbing routine of endless work—12 to 16-hour days with no time for myself or to witness the beauty of nature—and directed me back to the sacred path, the Saq B’e.

This journey also brought me to a community of kindred spirits who continue to support my growth, and it opened the door to writing and research. Writing became one of my most powerful tools for healing, allowing me to reflect on my experiences and document my growth in hopes of inspiring others. Through these practices, I began not only to heal myself but also to mend the wounds carried in my lineage. Reconnecting with ancestral spirituality was the key to restoring what had been fragmented, bringing healing to the past, present, and future.

The lessons I’ve learned are steeped in Maya wisdom: pain and suffering are often teachers in disguise, guiding us if we have the courage to listen. The energies of today remind us to embrace nature’s direction, to slow down, to smell the flowers, and to honor the cycles of life. Through these practices, I strive to keep our traditions alive for the generations yet to come, ensuring that the light of our ancestors continues to shine brightly in this world.
