Caban, Uaxac, Oc

As the gears in the cosmic calendar turn and churn the fabric of time and space, we move into the Day sign Caban. As the universe’s mechanism causes our Sun 🌞 to rise we transition into the 8th day (Uaxac) ⛈️ of this Oc Trecena (13 day cycle).

Caban / N'oj

In Mayan cosmology, Caban (Yucatec) or N'oj (K'iche') represents human intellect, wisdom, and spiritual growth. It symbolizes the slow, deliberate journey of knowledge, similar to bees transforming nectar into honey through patience and community effort.

As the nagual of earthquakes, Caban embodies the power to reshape beliefs, urging us to challenge and deepen our understanding. It aligns with the woodpecker’s persistence and the gazelle’s agility, reminding us that wisdom requires both dedication and adaptability. This day is associated with the East and is represented by the color red.

Caban is one of the four Year Bearers, bringing intelligence and innovation to each new cycle. On Caban days, Maya communities gather to share wisdom, guided by spiritual advisors reading tz'ite seeds to seek insight. This day encourages us to cultivate the mind, clearing away negativity to reach enlightenment.

Uaxac/ Wajxaqib

The Number 8

Uaxac or Wajxakib, the sacred number eight in the Tzolk’in calendar, embodies the flow of life and the rhythm of time. It represents the cycle of birth and fulfillment, a point where all things converge and reach completion.

In Maya tradition, eight is a symbol of balance and harmony, where beginnings and endings meet and give rise to something whole. It is under the watchful gaze of the Fertility and Maize God, a number blessed with the vitality of life itself.

Those born on Eight days are believed to carry immense power, but they must be mindful of their emotions, ensuring their strength doesn’t overwhelm or disrupt the balance they are meant to uphold.

Guardian of the 8th Day

Tlaloc, the divine lord of the Eighth Day of the Trecena, holds a powerful connection to the number eight in our sacred Tzolk’in calendar—referred to as Uaxac in Yucatec Maya and Wajxaqib’ in K’iche’ Maya. Known as the god of rain, Tlaloc presides over fertility and abundance, offering life-giving waters to sustain the earth. His domain, Tlalocan, is remembered as a lush, watery paradise—a sacred Otherworld revered by Nahuatl-speaking communities in Mexico to this day.

Tlaloc’s consort, Chalchiuhtlicue, is the goddess of rivers, lakes, and seas, embodying the nurturing and cleansing aspects of water. Among the Maya, Tlaloc’s counterpart is Chac, the rain god whose presence is invoked through rituals and offerings to ensure the balance of the natural world. To this day, the Yucatec Maya honor the rain gods, collectively known as the Chacs, reflecting the enduring reverence for these sacred forces.

The cosmic date is, Uaxac (8), the day sign is Caban of this Oc Trecena, or in Gregorian terms, February 13th 2025.

Again I ask, what would the OG Daykeepers advise today as the energies of the Oc trecena intertwines with the energies of the Caban Day sign and the number Uaxac (8) tone?

Today’s energies blend together the guiding force of the Oc trecena, the grounding wisdom of Caban, and the harmonizing influence of Uaxac, forming a day of deep introspection. Oc reminds us that relationships, loyalty, and heart-centered leadership shape the foundation of our journey, while Caban, the force of Earth and evolution, urges us to remain aware of the interconnectedness of all things. Uaxac strengthens this alignment, calling for balance in thought, action, and the unseen forces that shape our reality.

Our ancestors would see this as a day to honor the wisdom of both stillness and motion, understanding that true growth emerges from listening as much as speaking, observing as much as acting. Just as the Earth moves in cycles, so do our lives, and today is a reminder that our greatest insights often come when we attune ourselves to the quiet rhythms beneath the surface. In any gathering, discussion, or decision-making process, it is the voices that are often overlooked—the contemplative, the observant—that may carry the wisdom needed to restore harmony and guide the collective forward. Instead of seeking answers in noise and dominance, today calls for recognition of the subtle forces shaping our path, the quiet knowing that carries the weight of ancestral memory, and the understanding that true leadership often speaks in actions rather than words.

Reflection of the Day

Movement and stillness, action and contemplation, leadership and humility—these forces shape today’s reflections, as the energy of Oc calls us to honor our bonds and responsibilities while Caban reminds us that every step, whether forward or paused, carries the wisdom of experience. Uaxac (6) brings balance, urging us to harmonize the mind and body, instinct and reason, heart and strategy. These energies are alive in every facet of my life, from my daily work to the time I spend gaming with my friends, from managing physical pain to caring for the beings who depend on me.

My lower back injury has been a relentless teacher in patience and discernment. The pain is always there—sometimes a dull vibration, sometimes a sharp jolt that radiates down my leg, especially in the cold. It’s forced me to adopt a different kind of movement, one that requires foresight and respect for my body’s limits. Every action is a calculation: Will this cost me days of recovery? If I push too hard, I’ll find myself bedridden, relying on a TENS unit, CBD for comfort and my phone for research and connection. Pain has shown me the value of stillness—not as stagnation, but as an intentional pause, a moment to assess before moving forward. Light courier work is still within my capacity, but only when I know my body can handle it. More often now, my energy is poured into reading, researching, making music, and writing—pursuits that require mental agility rather than physical endurance. I’ve learned that forward motion isn’t always about pushing harder; sometimes, it’s about choosing the right path forward.

Leadership and humility apply everywhere, even in something as seemingly simple as gaming. My friends and I play FPS (first person shooters) games like Battlefield and Call of Duty, where quick decisions shape the outcome. Some players love calling the shots, eager to take command. But when I lead, I approach it differently. I recognize that leadership isn’t about dictating every move; it’s about knowing who is best suited for what. When I call the game, I’ll ask the most tactical among us to take point, even if others complain that it isn’t “really” leading. But if this were real battle, wouldn’t the best strategist be the one to move first? I prefer to delegate, making sure everyone plays to their strengths. I usually carry extra ammo and medical supplies, acting as a supplier for the team. We have fun, we talk our shit, but we also check in on each other when life gets rough. Because real bonds, real leadership, go beyond the game.

This also extends to my non-human family. The raccoons, cats, possums, birds, and other beings in my neighborhood rely on me for food, water, and shelter. When coyotes prowl, the animals take refuge on my roof or in my garage, a space I leave open for them. I’ve found raccoons curled up, sleeping soundly, and stray cats seeking safety in the same place. Right now, I’m fostering four orphaned kittens—helpless little beings whose mother never returned. Maybe she was hit by a car, maybe taken by a coyote. Either way, they needed help. The county shelters won’t save them; in fact, most would euthanize them, just as they did to 6,400 cats in Riverside County alone in 2023. That’s unacceptable. Life, in all forms, is sacred. Whether you follow an indigenous path or a Christian one, there is a covenant to uphold—a responsibility to care for the Earth and its creatures. I refuse to look the other way while innocent lives are discarded. So I do my part. I stop and think before I act. But when I act, it’s with my heart.

... Read moreMaya cosmology intricately weaves together concepts of time, energy, and spirituality, as evidenced by the interplay between the Day Sign Caban and the sacred number Uaxac (8). Caban reflects human intellect, creativity, and the transformative journey towards knowledge. Similar to the diligent process of bees creating honey, this sign encourages patience, collaboration, and personal growth. Uaxac, as the essence of balance and manifestation, signifies moments where creation meets fulfillment, aligning with nature's rhythm. This synchronicity invites us to reflect on how our lives flow in cycles of beginnings and completions, embodying the principle of equilibrium in action. Maya teachings suggest that individuals born on Uaxac days embody significant power accompanied by the responsibility to maintain harmony in emotions and actions. Utilizing the presence of Tlaloc, the rain god associated with fertility and abundance, communities encourage participation in rituals that evoke guidance through spiritual practices and offerings. These age-old traditions reflect a profound respect for ancestral wisdom and natural elements. As modern practitioners or enthusiasts delve into these teachings, an appreciation for the intersection of personal experiences with broader cosmic forces unfolds. The energies of Caban and Uaxac remind us of our interconnectedness with all beings, fostering a consciousness that values every moment, relationship, and interaction as vital to our collective journey.
