Oc, Kan, Manik
As the gears in the cosmic calendar turn and churn the fabric of time and space, we move into the Oc Day sign. As the universe’s mechanism causes our Sun 🌞 to rise, we transition into Kan, the 4th day and night of this Manik’ Trecena (13-day cycle).
In Maya cosmology, Oc is the loyal companion, the guide who walks beside us through darkness and light. It is the energy of unconditional love, devotion, protection, and heart-centered service. Oc reminds us of the sacred bond between humans and animals, between the seen and unseen, between what we vow and how we live. It asks us to examine the integrity of our relationships, not through words, but through presence.
This day sign governs loyalty, trust, and the invisible threads of connection that make a life meaningful. Oc does not seek perfection—it seeks authenticity. It teaches that the most profound service comes from love unguarded, and that fidelity to spirit requires more than belief. It requires practice. Are we standing by those we love, even in difficulty? Are we living by the vows we’ve made, spoken or silent?
Oc is associated with the North and the color white. Today’s Nahuales are the Dog, the Coyote, and the Raccoon. The Dog carries fierce loyalty and guardianship of the soul. The Coyote brings trickster wisdom, testing the limits of truth and teaching through contradiction. The Raccoon is clever, resourceful, and attuned to the subtleties of human behavior. Together they remind us that devotion must walk hand-in-hand with adaptability, and that love is both feral and sacred.
Kan / K’an
The Number Four
Known as Kan in Yucatec, the number Four reflects foundation, structure, and the grounding of spiritual energy into the physical world. It is the sacred square, the four directions, the legs of the altar. It offers stability but asks for responsibility. Four reminds us that every vision requires roots and every intention needs a form.
In Maya numerology, Kan brings order to motion and endurance to inspiration. It is the energy that helps us build and sustain. Those born under this tone often carry a strong sense of purpose, but must learn to balance flexibility with firmness. Four asks: what structures uphold your life, and are they worthy of your spirit?
Guardian of the 4th Day
The deity associated with Kan (4) is Centeotl, the maize god and provider of sustenance, growth, and prosperity. Centeotl represents the harvest that follows patient care, the nourishment earned through ritual and right action. He blesses the offerings made from the heart and reminds us that what we plant today becomes what we feed the world with tomorrow.
Within the Manik’ trecena, Centeotl brings attention to the relationship between healing and structure. It is not enough to want to help—we must cultivate systems and containers that allow that help to take root. Centeotl asks for accountability in our service, and reminds us that love without structure cannot nourish.
The cosmic date is Kan (4), the day sign is Oc, within the Manik’ trecena. In Gregorian terms, this corresponds to June 6, 2025.
Again I ask: What would the OG Daykeepers advise today as the energies of the Manik’ trecena intertwine with the loyal fire of Oc and the stabilizing energy of the Kan tone?
Today’s convergence of Oc, Kan, and the Manik’ trecena invites a reflection on how we show up for others—and for ourselves. Are we offering love in a way that endures? Are we building containers strong enough to hold the weight of our care? Oc says show up. Kan says stay. Manik says let your service be a blessing, not a burden.
If you've been scattered, this is a day to come back to your altar—whatever form that takes. If relationships have felt strained, this is a moment to return to the heart of why they matter. Dog offers loyalty. Coyote offers unexpected clarity. Raccoon helps us see in the dark. Centeotl reminds us that the ground we prepare now determines what will feed us later.
Be the companion who doesn’t leave. Be the healer who builds a bridge. Be the spirit who remembers the vow. The Tzolk’in holds the rhythm, but we are the ones who must keep the pace.
Love is the path. Walk it well.
Reflection of the Day
Loyalty.
How many of us truly have it?
If you have a dog, then you’ve experienced it. No doubt about that.
If you have a human? It’s possible... but not guaranteed.
That’s where dogs come in. They’re our teachers.
I talk about Charlie all the time—how he taught me what unconditional love actually feels like. That kind of loyalty isn’t performative. It doesn’t change with moods or seasons. It stays.
Before my wife, like most people, I had a few serious relationships. Two of them ended with betrayal—yeah, they cheated. Some people get disgusted by that and say they could never forgive something like that. But I just laugh. I wasn’t innocent when I met my wife, and neither were most of the girls I dated. We’ve all made choices. I tried unconditional love. But the universe has a funny way of realigning you—moving you to the right constellation, or the correct binary system, you know?
I actually forgave my ex. I figured maybe it was partly on me—I was working 16-hour days, five or six days a week. I wasn’t around enough. But after the third time, one of my homies handed me a bag of psilocybin mushrooms, and I watched a movie about myself. I saw this man giving everything, working way too much, being loyal—and for what? For someone who didn’t even see the gift he was offering.
After that trip, I let go. Fully. And honestly, I’m grateful. Because letting her go brought me to my wife. Wild part? My ex introduced us. Life’s got a wicked sense of humor.
Just like Charlie, and just like the red-crowned green parrots that sometimes wake us up here in So Cal—I’ve learned to stay loyal to what truly matters. I’ve been faithful to my wife every day since, and that’s one less thing in life to worry about. That kind of foundation brings blessings you can’t even count.
I’ve got friends I’ve known since the ‘90s. We talk a lot of shit on the mic while we game, but when life gets real, I know who’s got my back—and they know I’ve got theirs. Loyalty doesn’t need a spotlight. It just needs consistency.
Most of all, my loyalty is to Earth itself—and to the covenant. The one the Hopi still honor. The one even the Christian and Jewish faiths recognize in the Noahic covenant. We all share that. It’s ancient. It’s real.
All life is sacred.
And that’s what I’m loyal to.

In the rich tapestry of Maya cosmology, the concepts of Oc and Kan invite profound reflection. Oc is characterized by loyalty and unconditional love, suggesting we examine our bonds, not just through words but through actions and presence. It symbolizes the importance of being authentic in our expressions of care while embodying the essence of devotion. Kan, representing the number Four, emphasizes stability and structure, connecting spiritual energy with the material world. This understanding reminds us of the significance of grounding our intentions in tangible actions, highlighting the relationship between our desires and the frameworks we establish to achieve them. Each day in this cyclical calendar encourages personal growth and reflection on our roles in relationships. Additionally, the deities associated with these signs, such as Centeotl, the maize god, signify nourishment and spiritual accountability. They challenge us to create systems that sustain our intentions, emphasizing the balance between caring for others and fostering our own well-being. Ultimately, as we navigate through the complexities of life, the understanding of Oc, Kan, and Manik grants us wisdom on how to maintain fidelity to our commitments while nurturing the vibrancy of our connections.
