Akb’al, Uac, Etznab
As the gears in the cosmic calendar turn and churn the fabric of time and space, we enter Akb’al, the sacred Night, as our Sun 🌞 rises into the sixth day, Uac, of the Etznab trecena.
In Maya cosmology, Akb’al is the temple of darkness, the dream world, and the hidden chamber of the soul. Associated with the West and the color black, Akb’al is mystery, intuition, and the voice that speaks in silence. It is the hearth fire glowing in the night, the dreams that guide us, and the courage to walk into the unknown. The Fawn 🦌 brings innocence, gentleness, and quiet trust, while the Macaw 🦜 radiates beauty, bold expression, and clarity of vision. Together, they remind us that the dark holds both vulnerability and brilliance, and that truth is often revealed in silence.
Uac: The Number Six
In Yucatec, Uac is the number of balance and flow. Six harmonizes the inner and outer worlds, grounding movement in stability. It calls us to align thought, word, and action so that life flows with integrity and grace.
Guardian of the 6th Day
The deity presiding over this day is Mictlantecuhtli, Lord of the Underworld. As guardian of the sixth day, he rules the realm of ancestors and the cycles of death and rebirth. His presence reminds us that endings are not to be feared but honored, for they prepare the way for renewal. With Mictlantecuhtli guiding Akb’al, the silence of night becomes a passage through which wisdom is reborn.
The cosmic date is Uac (6), the day sign is Akb’al, within the Etznab trecena. In Gregorian terms, this corresponds to September 7, 2025.
So again I ask: What would the OG Daykeepers advise as Etznab’s blade of truth meets the dream-chamber of Akb’al and the balancing current of Uac?
Today is a day to listen to silence, to honor endings, and to walk gently in the mystery. The Fawn reminds you to trust your sensitivity, the Macaw to speak and shine with courage, and Mictlantecuhtli to embrace the wisdom of cycles. Step into the dark not with fear but with reverence, for the night holds the seeds of renewal. 🦌🦜🌑💀
Reflection of the Day
Akb’al is the house of darkness, the dreamtime, the place of mystery where not everything is meant to be fully understood. This past week I found myself navigating challenges that felt overwhelming, things I could not quite make sense of, and perhaps never will. Uac, the number six, reminds me that balance is not about having all the answers, but about moving with stability through the unknown.
I have come to realize how deeply sensitive I am to Iboga, and in the midst of its difficulty, the one constant that carried me was love. Love became my anchor, my compass. The ceremony that my dog Charlie left for me when he passed continues to guide me, a flame in the dark that always brings me home. The love of my wife, and the love we share for each other, also carried me through, as did the quiet presence of our pets and the little creatures who live around our home. Reading the Tzolk’in daily and writing these reflections also kept me grounded, reminding me that I am part of a larger rhythm and that even struggle has its place in the count of days.
In the Etznab trecena, truth can cut, but today’s lesson is that truth also reveals what endures when all else falls away. Mictlantecuhtli teaches that darkness is not only an end, but also a place of renewal. The Fawn shows me to move gently through these passages, and the Macaw reminds me that beauty and light eventually return. When faced with difficulty, I turn to love. Because love always wins, even in the deepest night.

The Maya calendar and spiritual traditions provide an intricate framework for understanding the interplay between cycles of nature, cosmic forces, and human experience. Akb’al, often referred to as the temple of darkness, signifies not just night but a sacred threshold where the seen and unseen meet. This moment invites us to embrace intuition and reflect deeply on inner mysteries that often elude logical explanation. The association with the West and the color black in Akb’al symbolizes endings and transitions, which are necessary for regeneration and transformation. Uac, the number six, plays a crucial role as a symbol of harmony and equilibrium. Numerologically, six bridges inner spirituality and outer reality, urging alignment across thought, word, and deed to maintain the flow of life’s energies with grace. In this way, Uac becomes a guiding principle to navigate challenges and uncertainties with steadiness and integrity. The trecena of Etznab, represented by a blade, is a period where truth is sharp and revealing. It encourages cutting through illusion and recognizing enduring realities that remain after superficial layers fall away. The fusion of Etznab’s cutting energy with Akb’al’s darkness creates an environment ripe for profound insight, fostering courage to encounter the unknown boldly while honoring the cycles that govern existence. Mictlantecuhtli, the powerful Lord of the Underworld, presiding on the sixth day (Uac) in this cycle, embodies the inevitability of endings and the promise of renewal. His realm encompasses the ancestral world and cycles of death and rebirth, reminding us that loss is not a conclusion but a gateway to new beginnings. Mictlantecuhtli’s presence encourages us to move beyond fear and approach transitions with reverence and awareness of soul growth. Together, these elements—Akb’al, Uac, Etznab, the Fawn, and the Macaw—create a multi-dimensional tapestry of symbolism. The Fawn instills softness and trust in the process, while the Macaw embodies vibrant expression and the illumination of truth. Their combined energy calls for balanced receptivity and fearless communication. For those drawn to spiritual exploration, engaging with the Maya calendar’s cycles can cultivate a deeper connection to the natural rhythms that shape our lives. Incorporating daily reflections rooted in the Tzolk’in teachings can provide grounding and perspective, especially during times of challenge and change. Ultimately, love, as highlighted in the reflections, proves to be the ultimate compass guiding through darkness and uncertainty toward renewal and light.
